Description i have been working on this every week since spring break and i am finally done! i have had this idea in my head for so long and i finally got it on paper. it has been a long journey with this one but i'm really happy with the colors and design, i hope you guys are too!

this is my entry for contest with the theme of dreams.

A Siren is an ancient Greek legend of dangerous women who lived on an island called Sirenum scopuli. The island was surrounded by cliffs and rocks and it was said that sailors who sailed near the island were compelled by the Sirens' enchanting music and voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast. No survivors ever lived to tell of their enchanting song. Sirens' voices appeal to the spirit, not to the body which is why resisting their call is impossible. This painting is a representation of a Siren dreaming of her ancient home and what has become of it. Even the Siren is called back to her home by her spirit just like her songs do to her victims.

i would like to thank for her wonderful stock. i used this for the girl reference: [link]
thank you! wish my luck in the contest, here is a link to the other amazing entries:[link]

Wanderful colours!)) Only you should have made the girl and part of the tree that is closer to the viewer more colourful, so the perspective would be more realictic) Great job still))

Watercolors are a lot of fun, I keep meaning to pull mine out more often but alas they seem to stay hidden lately.

Calmality In reply to krazysidhestudios [2010-03-21 19:07:14 +0000 UTC]

Watercolor is my favorite medium! Although they take a long time to work with for me. You should get them out again! I have been meaning to also. Spring is usually the time I start watercolors ^.^

krazysidhestudios In reply to Calmality [2010-03-21 23:13:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, my biggest issue at the moment is I don't really have a lot of space to work in. With things like that I prefer to get it out and leave it laying around for a few days. Work on in here, let it dry, work on it again later. But if I get things out right now, I have to put it away when I'm done for the day.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Calmality In reply to krazysidhestudios [2010-03-22 00:31:48 +0000 UTC]

the space issue is always tough. I hate having to clean up every time after taking out art supplies. It holds you back from actually starting something. I hope you will find it in you to start painting again even if the space is limited

krazysidhestudios In reply to Calmality [2010-03-22 04:12:39 +0000 UTC]

Aye, I suppose it is one of those things I should stop using as an excuse and just work with it. So many things seem to end up that way and so many things that I want to do. That seems to be the problem with not being able to settle on one medium that you find appealing. I love to do so many things and then there are those that seem to get left out.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Calmality In reply to krazysidhestudios [2010-03-23 20:38:51 +0000 UTC]

Don't worry, I use excuses all the time. XD
If you haven't noticed, I change mediums often too. But that is what keeps it interesting and you get to much more skill developed. Although at some point I should probably choose just one to practice more often. ^.^
I hope that you can find the time to work on some artwork that you love

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

krazysidhestudios In reply to Calmality [2010-03-26 02:40:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I change mediums a lot, some people see it as a problem. But there a few I keep coming back to, so I figure there is nothing wrong with it. It keeps me interested and it keeps me working and in the end I think that's what matters. Having fun and doing what you like, is better then forcing yourself to do something that you don't always enjoy just because other people think that's what you should be doing.

Calmality In reply to krazysidhestudios [2010-03-26 02:49:39 +0000 UTC]

So very true! We sound very much alike. I switch mediums all the time as well and I see nothing wrong with experimenting. I couldn't imagine doing like 5 paints or drawings in the same medium one after the other. I love change when it comes to art.
people always think you should be doing something else. I always fight with my art teacher because she does that XD

I had an art teacher that really liked charcoal and charcoal is one medium that I find beautiful but I really dislike working with it--because I make a giant mess of myself and the drawing. It was funny, we'd go back and forth about it all the time and eventually he started letting me use graphite sticks instead of charcoal sticks.

I rather wonder sometimes to at this stage if the urge to do many things doesn't come from taking classes in a variety of mediums. I don't think I've had a semester where I'm taking only one type of art class--and I only take three classes a semester right now--and so you're exposed to a variety of things. It seems only natural then, that if you're a curious type of person you'd want to try different things.

Calmality In reply to krazysidhestudios [2010-03-29 00:55:09 +0000 UTC]

I love working in charcoal. Partly because you never can as easily capture the amount of detail in charcoal that you can in graphite because it is so messy. I guess I'm a little lazy that way.
Charcoal is so unbelieveably messy! I find streaks of charcoal all over my clothes, skin, work area, the floor, even on food at times XD
I need to do more graphite in the future which means I will be needing pencils soon...

I'm right with you, I take many different art classes at one time. Right now it is more relaxed and I am doing jewelry and ceramics. I love studying different mediums, it keeps me so occupied.

krazysidhestudios In reply to Calmality [2010-03-29 04:19:47 +0000 UTC]

I think my biggest issue with charcoal is I have a bad habit of putting my hand in what I'm working on... and with charcoal that can cause a lot of problems that are as easy to fix, especially in lighter areas. ^_^; Though looking back on it now I can see the benefit of working looser. Probably would've been better for me to try and go with it.

I want to take a metals class really bad but unfortunately it's hard to fit in such a time consuming class with my textiles classes that are in and of themselves quiet time consuming.
