Thank you It took me ages to get that shot though since the swan kept moving about. He was preening himself, so I decided to focus the camera at that point, and wait for him to be in the frame, rather than try and chase the frame after him!! And almost immediately, I finally got the shot I was looking for!! I've noticed there's not that many different shots of swans - they all seem similar....although they do make up for it with better exposure and lighting than mine!!

Aw thank you!!

Let's hope I can bring a lil bit of this composition, lighting and the professional look to all my Nom-Con photos!! I'm really nervous for it - animals are alot easier to take photos of than people, despite their constant moving about!!

Yeah they are much easier to photograph if you nail them down first but of course if you nail them the wrong way they bleed all over themselves which sort of spoils the photographs for most although there are people who like that kind of thing. Personally I think if thats what photoshop was invented for. Have you tried draining all the blood out of them, be sure to fill their veins with a saline solution, they're more or less dead then and you can do what you like with them. Once you've finished taking your shots drain out the saline solution, put the blood back in, whack em with a few volts of the car battery and they're as good as new again.

Emma-Lawlor In reply to FirmAsRock [2010-04-12 10:13:03 +0000 UTC]

That sounds like such an awkward process, but I'll take note and try it out next time - will let you know how I get on!! lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FirmAsRock In reply to Emma-Lawlor [2010-04-12 16:00:25 +0000 UTC]

Don't forget the saline solution. I've done it a couple of times myself. The results are very messy. Have you ever tried applying electricity to dead critters. I'm thinking mainly llamas here for some reason. Simply applying electricity to them is useless. You have to throw loads of water on them first, then its mad the things that can happen. Oh yeah, make sure and wear wellies.

Emma-Lawlor In reply to FirmAsRock [2010-04-12 18:55:53 +0000 UTC]

Wellies, right! Got it!!

How do you get over the fish problem? I mean if you were to apply that whole technique to get a photo in it's natural habitat, then by trying to get it alive, wouldn't you end up frying many other fish? Just a bit of atmospheric oxygen can kill a fish!! (yup, even those anglers that throw the fish back into the water may be killing all their fish without realising!!)

FirmAsRock In reply to Emma-Lawlor [2010-04-12 20:22:50 +0000 UTC]

I must admit to being somewhat shocked and not a little dismayed by your beligerance. I thought everybody who was anybody and their dog knew that galinisation, as first demonstrated by Eddy Galvini, Uncle Galvini's not so favourite nephew, back in 1803, is not applicable to fish.
I'm reasonably certain it works on anglers though. I shouldn't bother killing them first, just throw some water on them and apply the volts.
Be sure to bring your camera along, a photo of that could get you a DD.

And yes, be sure to wear the wellies!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Emma-Lawlor In reply to FirmAsRock [2010-04-12 21:00:38 +0000 UTC]

Oooh, anglers....who woulda ever thought!! I shall pack my wellies and be off to find the nearest angler!! I'll count on you to suggest that shot for a DD once I succeed in capturing it! Then I'll succeed in my life goal of having a DD before I get sent to jail!...Well, I'm assuming I keep the anglers dead, yeah?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FirmAsRock In reply to Emma-Lawlor [2010-04-12 21:26:13 +0000 UTC]

Keeping the anglers dead is optional. I'll leave that up to your own nefarious devices. Personally I've always felt that dead anglers are infinitely more interesting than live ones. For a really interesting shot I'm thinking jam a hook into their mouth and hoist them up.
Don't worry about the jail thing. Claim insanity. We could actually get to meet each other then.

Emma-Lawlor In reply to FirmAsRock [2010-04-13 19:00:28 +0000 UTC]

Most of what you say has an air of clairvoyancy about it and strangely enough, it's exactly what happened with the last woman I got to know through dA. Isn't that a coincidence?

Any decision on the bunny emote yet?
