Description Rueben!

I love Rueben. Who doesn’t love Rueben? We are all, in a way, Rueben. He’s probably making some smartmouth comment to Gantu on the Big Red Battleship as they soar across the galaxy with the BRB Task Force, rounding up Leroy clones.

Going to explain this because why shouldn’t I!

In my headcanon, the Leroy-clones are weaker than the original Leroy. Not by much! Obviously. The movie never exactly shows evidence of that. It’s not like in Dupe, where the duplicates can be knocked down by a stiff breeze, or aren’t even strong enough to pull a squirt bottle out of the hand of an eight year-old girl. No, the Leroy clones are marginally as strong and capable as Stitch/Leroy/627. But here’s what I mean when I say they’re “weaker.”

The clones were made in Jumba’s lab. So, the argument can be made that they aren’t perfect duplicates of Leroy, because obviously, with Dupe as an example, Jumba never really perfected that technology. If Leroy was cloned in a machine made by Jumba, the good news is, he didn’t have to be cut in half (which seems to be Hamsterviel tech) but the bad news is, the clones aren’t exactly as strong as the original.

So what I’m rambling to say is:

The original Leroy woke up in a Galactic Federation prison cell after the Coliseum Battle grumpy, but otherwise fine. But the Leroy-clones? None of them have ever been the same since “Aloha Oe“ shut them down. I attribute their drunken, silly dancing to Jailhouse Rock at the end of the film to this. They’re all a little unhinged, a little more mischievous than strictly evil, and nowhere near capable of strategizing or using their supercomputer brains, like the original Leroy can. In addition to losing a lot (not all) of their super-strength and their extra abilities, like turning blue or spitting explosive saliva. Some of them are even (gasp!) LESS  FLUFFY! They all are sort of dippy.  More on the state of the Leroy-clones later.

For now, suffice it to say in my headcanon that though the Leroy-clones won’t be destroying planets or toppling governments any time soon, they do still make good goons, henchmen, and nuisances, and should any of them wander to a planet with tyrants or masterminds, THEN real damage could be caused. Plus, technically, they’re all convicted criminals, so you can’t just let them run around no matter how comparatively low a threat they’ve become.

Which is why Gantu put together the BRB Task Force out of Experiments who used to work for him like Heat, Plasmoid, Snafu, yadda yadda. When the original Leroy gets busted out of Galactic Federation Prison by 621’s forces, he opens all the cell doors and frees his clones to cover their escape in the mayhem (because Trip got knocked out and couldn’t teleport them away, so getting back to Earth became more of a problem.)

Quite a few of the clones were caught and slapped back into cells, but a good chunk of them bounced into police cruisers and went on the lam. Gantu, feeling personally responsible, answered with the BRB Task Force, which Rueben had to encourage him to go for.

Rueben’s lifestyle has significantly improved since learning the meaning of “Aloha” in the events of Lilo’s childhood. He never really cared much about helping or hindering Gantu, OR Lilo & Stitch, in the events of the series, unless something like 627 was directly affecting him. He was self-absorbed. Even his attachment to Gantu used to be about how he felt. But Lilo woke up that part of him that sees “the Aloha spirit you give will always come back to you.” And he’s been generally happier and more encouraging to Gantu ever since.

Don’t get me wrong, he still mocks and sasses. He’s still a little snot sometimes. But generally he makes the high tempers and insecurities on the BRB softer. He’ll bust Gantu’s chops out of one side of his buck teeth and then turn right around and boost his self-confidence with a few encouragements.

Whenever the Task Force is really in trouble, look out! Rueben acts as an ace up their sleeve; He prefers making their sandwiches and operating as Galley Officer, rarely going out “in the field.” But when everyone else is down and out, Rueben breaks out the extra arms and Stitch-strength and pitches in with a fury he’s learned since “turning good” and earning his name.
