i was going to crit when i saw this page loading, because when you see only the top half of the image, it looks a little underdone, but once the bottom half loaded I changed my mind, because it really balances the image out!
I really like how the warm blue of the sky contrasts with the cool blues of the of the waves, and the highlights on the water are really well done.
This is just so well balanced, i can't help but love it!

This turned out great! I really love how the colors give depth and volume to the ocean view.

mh then I'll simply have to fave the redone version again, no? :]
What kind of wondrous underwater worlds may lie beneath this wooden planks... (I always wonder when I'm at sea. Sometimes it's no good idea to even think about it, though, especially when swimming instead of floating above the waters in a boat/ship...)

A dead city, when there is so much life below? How strange. Although, are mechanical fish truly alive? That one jumping sure looks like it, although some of them in the middle there look as though they wish they weren't.
Ah, and there's that tentacle again, I feel a sense of foreboding, I do.

your water this time seems more dark, or more like natural water. There seems to be a base colour which has pervaded everything that's in it, which is great, because it seems more unified. I say that because the fish stand out while simultaneously blending in, which looks great.

I still have much to do with this piece- this is only the base colors- there are still shadows and highlights to add, and though it looks nice, the goal is to make it really sing ....

I like the changes you made. Leaving out the ship and adding a more difined background gives the whole piece more depth. The boy looks now more like he is think what the map wants to tell him and the captain gives the right "Onwoard! to the shore" atmosphere.

very nice. I like how you did the far mechanical fishes so that we feel a more 3d view. the boy seems concentrated to understand the map. but there is one small thing I think you should consider: the captain seems pointing somewhere, but no sailor is listening to him. in general, if he is pointing to something, he should be talking with someone. for example, the boy could be just behind him, holding the map and looking where the captain is pointing... except this. everything is perfect.

I think your changes are for the better. The Captain and the boy both seem more involved in the adventures, and their expressions make the adventure seem a little more lighthearted. The splashing fish and the shipwreck were nice, but I think were distracting in the composition. Now I feel like it's easier to focus on the lead characters in the adventure. I also noticed he faces in the underwater rocks, which carries on one of the series' themes. Looking forward to seeing this one colored.
