Description The moa were among the largest flightless birds. In the nine species of Moa, probably the South Island giant moa was the biggest of them all. It reached about 3.6 m (12 ft) in height with neck outstretched, and weighed about 200 - 250 kg. It is the tallest bird that ever lived.

Fossils have been found in New Zealand.

Very nicely done. As a New Zealander, I commend you for creating a splendid moa. Do you think you can do a Haast's Eagle too?

Nice. A Haast's Eagle really can kill a bird wich can grow that large?

A Haast's Eagle is somewhat larger but no way nearer to the size of Moa. However, the advantage it has is flying and attacking from the air while Moa has not much defense from that. I am not sure if one Haast's Eagle can take down one full grown Moa..Sure 2 or 3 Eagles can.
If the Eagle can't fly then the Moa will squash it....

Forest eagles hunt alone. the flying advantage is the decisive advantage that lets it kill prey 20 times its size.

I did not see them, but there have been eyewitness accounts, making Moas cryptids like Bigfoot

Sure the World is full of surprises... I don't believe in Dragons.Somewhere i commented in a image which had a dragon about whether the artist believes in it or not and the reply i got was he believes based on fossil evidence.. Somebody seriously has to tell me where is the fossils of Dragons located.

Sure thing. Basically, I don't need physical evidence to prove a legend's existence, all I need is hope. Just ask the Hopi tribe in Arizona, they have a prophecy which sees those particular extinct Animals returning to existence.

I had never heard of the elephant bird, but just went and did a little searching, apparently they were about the same size, estimated at least 10 feet tall and around 400lbs. Not sure how accurate that is, they were probably quite comparable.

Elephant bird is a nickname for Aepyornis. Moa is taller at 12 ft but Aepyornis being 10 ft tall is somewhat heavier at half tonnes.

Could be, I know we have eggs of them that are considered the biggest of all birds (here you see it next to that of an ostrich:  cryptomundo.com/wp-content/upl… )

Dontknowwhattodraw94 In reply to SlingBlade87 [2014-03-17 15:29:54 +0000 UTC]

Funny thing is that that's probably the real reason: hunting the adults down would be very difficult and dangerous but stealing the eggs was easy.

SlingBlade87 In reply to Dontknowwhattodraw94 [2014-03-18 02:01:40 +0000 UTC]

I think that's the same thing that struck down the Moa actually.

Most possibly, it seems really dangerous to hunt such big birds.
