Description So. I've been at this thing, on and off, for weeks. Originally, the idea was to try to make Sirius handsome, but still show the age and damage from Azkaban. But hell if I could get the wrinkles in without it looking all--not just ugly, but weird ugly. I should have used reference, I should have gone and found a picture of a handsome guy in his 30's or 40's. But no, I had to do it all out of my head, and when I draw like that, I can only draw stuff I have experience with. And I only really have experience with young people. I'll have to try again with something totally new.

*le sigh*

But, hey. I figured, when I take the freaky monkey-wrinkles off, it's still good in it's own right. So I went on and finished it--except it still has some issues. Mainly, the lighting. I sort of cheated and brought the light farther around his face that it should really be allowed, because I wanted his face to, like, show. And I'm okay with a little cheating. But perhaps because of that inconsistency, I can't for the life of me make sense of the cast shadows. I am sure that there ought to be shadows from those bars somewhere on his face, but I can't figure out where. Maybe I've been looking at it too long. Nrg. If someone else can get a better feel for it, I'd appreciate the help. I'm posting this mainly to see if I can get advice about it--I don't really consider it "done" yet because of this lighting problem.

Hm, do you think I have to go in and be more honest about the light on his face to make it coherent in the first place? I really don't WANT to, because I'm quite happy with the shading in his face and am loathe to go back in and mess with it any more, but maybe it's necessary....

Also, I sort of kind of feel like the various parts--Sirius, the wall, the sky--don't quite mesh together. But only when I look at it a certain way, and I'm not quite sure anymore if it's really there or if it's just me...

Well. Anyway, there it is. It feels so so close to being good; it just needs to get through this awkward phase. Help.

Are you sure it isn't Bellatrix? Because I think this picture is just too freaking beautiful to be a woman. Excellent job, by the way. I'm glad it contains no monkey-wrinkles

Amazeing light and a beatiful picture. But the nose and the mouth doesnΒ΄t look like it belongs to a man, but a woman...
The eyes and the eyebrow is lovely

Gorgeous. I love hjow the contrast and shading has been done. I'm a little at a loss of words really. He does look very young and unwrinkled indeed, but the colours and sad look make up for it. beautifully done.

Beautiful done! And the mood/ambient is excellent.
Very emotional. And I don't think you need to change something with the light...

Alright... really, I just want some highlights or shading in his hair >.> I think the shadows and lighting look fine, really...

As for the face... yeah, wrinkles have to be done carefully. I would like to see something around his eyes-- it doesn't have to be uber-old wrinkles, just a slight indication of the eyes being sunken, or the flesh under the eyes being slightly puffier... maybe a tint of red as well. He should look exhausted. (maybe squint his eye a bit as well.) A slight drooping of the mouth might work for you as well. He just shouldn't look so untouched and clean (on that note, any way you could add dirt on his cheek or something?).

Essentially, you want his 'aging' to be subtle.

As for everything meshing, maybe toy with the idea of lifting his eye to look out the window, up at those birds flying so freely away? I think it would add more agony to his attitude.

Heh. I had a feeling I wouldn't be able to get away with avoiding the hair glints. Man, I hate hair.

I want eye wrinkles too, honestly. I just haven't got them to work yet. I feel like tinting under the eyes would undermine the gray skin-tones though?

You make a generally good point about him seeming too untouched. I'm just... a bit in love with the skin as it is, and it's making it hard for me to dirty it up. I did fiddle with it some since you commented though, I dunno how much you think it helps?

I took your advice about the eye anyway. I don't want it looking up exactly, because I'm going for a feeling of sort of quiet, tired, resigned despair, and having him looking up would seem too... hopeful/actively longing. But I lifted it somewhat, and I like it better.

I like it better too. Still want something with the eye but you said you were working on that... though as for the redness, you did get away with it in the lips, but that seems like something you'd have to play with, since I'm not very well versed in this medium.

The skin does look better, and I see a hint of hair highlights; add them to the hair on the other side of his face and I think you'll be set
