The problem is that triggers do tend to be innocuous things such as a carpet or something. It's kind of how triggers work. A word like "bitch" could be a trigger if it brings that person back to a time of abuse just by hearing it.

I think that the stamp is referring to people who claim they are triggered whenever something offends them, not the triggers themselves.Β

Anyone with PTSD can get triggered from anything, regardless if you think it's stupid or not.
I used to get triggered by Build-a-Bear workshop because my ex step dad/abuser/person that molested me used to take me there after every time he did it to show how 'good I was for him', from when I was 3-13. I couldn't even glance at it just passing by it in a mall without having a breakdown in public, and being around stuffed animals made me upset for the longest time because of it, and it took years to get over it. People thought it was a stupid thing to get triggered over and that I was over reacting, but they're not the ones who went through that, and neither were you.
People seem to forget that PTSD doesn't just come from being in a war. It can come from years of abuse, rape or molestation, being in an extremely abusive relationship with an ex, witnessing something horrible like a gory death, ect. No one can control the fact that they have it, and no one can control their triggers. Hell, I'd do anything to have all of my triggers gone, anything to not send me into flashbacks and remembering in picture perfect detail of what happened in the past. And this is even with the medication I'm on, but it can only do so much to calm me. It can't make me completely forget what happened or stop me from having flashbacks.
I agree that people who have never had anything that tragic happen in their lives and don't have PTSD shouldn't be able to use the word 'trigger' so loosely and act like being called a bitch on the internet sends them into panic attacks. I 100% agree.
But many triggers that people with actual PTSD have are considered 'stupid'. Like how I used to be with stuffed animals. There was a person that I went to group therapy with a few years back that would get triggered by leather belts because of how their drunk dad would beat them with it. It might seem stupid to a normal person, but to people like us where the littlest thing can send us into having a panic attack, it's horrifying. And I hate how people see it as just being shaky as well. When you have these flashbacks, it's like you're reliving everything in vivid detail. You feel your heart sink into your chest, your breathing become fast and shaky, and you feel nothing but fear and pain. You can remember how they hurt you, almost as if you can feel what they're doing to you again as well as you relive this memory. You can't make it stop, you just have to sit there, crying, shaking, feeling so weak and vulnerable just like you did back then, and wait it out. And the worst thing? Triggers are called triggers because they trigger all of this. I can't help what sets this off. I can't help any of it, and neither can other people who have PTSD as well. I mean, people make fun of having the disorder enough, along with the triggers we have when we really, really can't help it. I'm so embarrassed of mine because of this. And I'm so ashamed that my disorder, my illness, is one that's currently looked down upon because so many people are starting to claim to have it. Because of this, people are starting to see ALL people with PTSD being whiny, stupid, and craving attention.
If you meant this stamp for being directed towards people who claim they have triggers with no PTSD, you should've worded it like "Stop saying you're triggered from something when you don't really have PTSD", not like this. Because the way it's currently worded makes it seem like you're taking a jab at everyone who has the disorder, not people claiming they do for attention. I know you don't mean it that way, but just for future reference, please do that instead. People with the disorder have been given a lot of shit over their triggers (yes, including war vets that are triggered by hearing fireworks), and I don't like seeing it because this is really something none of us can help. Like, you wouldn't make fun of people that are epileptic for going into a seizure upon seeing something flashing.
I know you meant it like you don't like people using fake triggers when they don't have PTSD. I don't either. But like I said, please consider rewording this.

Aw, I'm so sorry. Here's a hug:
I understand, I was abused too and I hate being touched, especially on my neck because of being strangled or being grabbed/picked up by my neck as a child. Being touched on the neck definitely triggers me, I've had flashbacks and I get really upset and teary-eyed and anxious from it, or even angry if the person keeps touching my neck. I hate it when people say 'triggered' over stupid little things.

I'm really sorry about what happened to you, I can't believe your ex-step dad did that to you. You did a good jobΒ describing a flashback for people like myselfΒ whoΒ haven't experienced one.Β You're right, triggers can be things that seem silly to most people. A good fictional example of this is Tony Stark in Iron Man 3; anything that reminded him of the wormhole in New York would trigger a panic attack, even something as innocent as a child's drawing sent him into such a severe panic attack he had to lock himself in his suit. I think the creator means people who use trigger as something that just makes them mad or they just don't like something. It's insulting to people with PTSD and other mental disorders. To be fair, it's impossible to know everything that will trigger someone unless you really know the person. It's probably best to just put trigger warnings on things that are most likely to be traumatic and serious, like rape, murder, suicide, self-harm etc. Sure, someone might be triggered by something that seems silly and innocent but that's the best someone can do without putting a trigger warning on everything.

This is a really well-thought out comment. Β I'm sorry about what happened to you. Β I know how you feel. Β I have PTSD, and I'm not really comfortable going into the reason why right now. Β But I was sitting down watching an episode of iCarly with my younger siblings and found myself getting triggered into oblivion from one of the jokes they made. Β I was so ashamed and embarrassed for getting triggered over an iCarly episode, of all things. Β I honestly didn't think I'd tell anyone about it, but your comment is giving me a bit of courage to speak up and verify that yes, some triggers can be really stupid to people if they don't have PTSD. Honestly,
I have seen a few posts with "Homestuck Mention", "Homestuck//", "MLP Mention", "MLP//","Harry Potter Mention", "Harry Potter//", etc tags. Since when did fandoms and other harmless shit like FOOD need trigger tags?
If it makes you feel annoyed, there's the blacklist option right over there.

capital letters can be perceived as someone yelling
caps make me uncomfortable but theyre not a trigger because my ex used to type in all caps when he was mad at me and all caps just make me feel like the other person is mad or angry

Well, all words are letters.... I know a person who is professionally diagnosed with PTSD and one of their triggers is the number 11 because their abuser did something with that number. I didn't ask for details of course. It's sad that so many people have these obscure triggers, but I do my best not to trigger them when I know that a certain thing will make them have panic attacks, etc.
