We can go on about the tragedy that was the loss of Angilas and Varan to what inevitably became GMK. But it's a damn fine movie, regardless, and the studio politics involved notwithstanding did not affect it's overall entertainment value. But in a perfect world, the movie that was to be "Godzilla X Varan, Baragon and Anguirus: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack" would, at least in my mind looked pretty close to the above rendering.

I had heard for a while that elements of Varan found its way into the King Ghidorah design of the finished film. However, after studying the maquettes of each of the proposed, yet rejected kaiju, Ghidorah also shares most of it's facial structure with Angilas as well. This made drawing the spiked monster easier. It also gave me a great shot idea to replace him with ghidorah in the still where Godzilla is biting down on one of it's necks.

Varan appears to be almost exactly as he originally appeared. I wasn't exactly clear who would be the guardian of the air and who be of the sea, but since Varan could "glide", I gave him the air role...which also meant he was going to get swatted by G's tail a' la Mothra.

Despite Baragon biting it early on in the finished film, the plot was to have worked itself out a bit different with all 3 trying to take down Godzilla. So now the subterranean beast is back, joining the grand finale throw-down.
