Description The 2nd "lost idea" from original Destroy All Monsters premise has an interesting line-up of monsters: Instead of Angilas, Minya and Gorosaurus, the final battle included Ebirah and Maguma. I had a hard time visualizing in my head how this would have looked...so I did this!

Admittedly, I re-used certain monsters from other pieces I created for sake of wanting to complete this quickly (here I go again!)

It took a long time to see Destroy All Monsters on video, but it was worth when the monsters marched together on the Kilaaks, especially when the announcer accidentally announces Godzilla's arrival prematurely and has to correct himself when Minilla arrives.Β

It sure speak a lot about King Ghidorah the fact that so many monsters were needed to succesfully finish him.
And it's awesome that the monsters worked together.
Pretty cool picture

Well, since you did draw the original character, I think you are allowed to cheat once in a while and repackage them to other stuff. You have such a consistent drawing style on every illustration...it's hard to tell that you are doing that. Very machine like.

I am amazed though you were able to still create an interesting and very emcompasing type of illustration for that, even though you did reuse several of the characters. They all still look like they are all engaging with eachother. None of them seem like they are stacked on top of eachother. And what I mean by that is...well if you look at the last illustration I put up, you can see what I mean.

earthbaragon.deviantart.com/ar…

That is stacking. None of my stuff is interacting...it just feels like a comic book cover sort of. But yours is the opposite of that. And honestly yours is the way more of an interesting style. It gives a lot of life and feel to the piece. It's not so....static.

Honestly though I think this would have made for a more interesting battle in the movie. I could just picture Varan just jumping on KG's back like some deranged vampire squirrel. And I could just see Ebirah just pinching the hell out of King Ghidorah's tails. Baragon probably would have had the exact same fight as Angirus had though...which is he gets beating mercilessly for a while.

Actually I think your style is vibrant and has an unmistakable style. I showed your work to my fiancΓ©e and she was pretty wowed by it. I like it for the signature style. Not sure I have one, but I'm glad you enjoy my work.

earthbaragon In reply to Fourgreen [2014-06-06 14:47:02 +0000 UTC]

I'm flattered Took me years to get to the point I am at now. If you look at some of my earlier works in my gallery....*shiver* So bad lol.

But you certainly got a style. Combinations of different mediums and sources is a style. You blend in photo-textures, with photograph imagery. You manipulate them so much, and combine that with hand drawn elements and colors. And it is almost flawless at times. Your Biollante and Hedorah piece is a perfect example of that And what is great about that style, is that you are able to bang out illustration after illustration in no time. Don't have to sit there in illustrator or photoshop and play around with anchor points here and there in order to get the right pen shape or shading color.

Question: I can see you being able to sell your pieces at conventions. Do you (or have you) ever done that? Like at a G-Fest? I bet you'd make a killing!

What's weird is that I used to be a patient artist. I think my older stuff from the 90's is better than my current because I learned to crank out work at a fast pace over the years. Now if I try to take my time, I get all restless and burn through it. I think I have a problem. LOL

earthbaragon In reply to Fourgreen [2014-06-07 02:44:12 +0000 UTC]

At G-Fest or fan conventions I never have. People that I know that have are some of my friends like , , :killustrationstudios:, and I believe has too. You have to ask them about their experiences and advice if you are planning to pay for a booth at a convention like G-fest.

No, the closest I can say I have done was at the Flying Monkey. About every other Saturday I would go up there. It was an outdated factory that was turned into an art theater area for people to preform and sell their wears. Books, metal jewlery, drawings, pottery...anything that was creative and art was sold. God, I can remember hauling crap up and down that Factory Elevator. I would sit there all day, just drawing away and doing small "print" samples for folks that came by. Had some pre-made screens done and ink set to the side. I would just ink up roll, and then screenprint a design on a shirt or large piece of BFK Printmaking paper. I would sell some stuff; which in turn...all the money went into a fund for the college kids in that class. It all went to go to a trip to South Dakato and to this Print Markers thing. I think the name of it was Frogman's Print Shop...I'm not sure. I didn't go, but I had no problem in going there and selling everyone's art. (And mine). It was just a Saturday, and I did it to help them out. I didn't ask for anything in return...which a lot of folks probably would have. Especially if they were not going to that Art convention.

All I can say, that worked there, was you have to engage the passerby's. Draw or do something that pertains to your art. Keep a big fake smile on and answer all the questions that come your way

I've done conventional. Signings for the comic book my friend and I have worked on...and those were successful. Β I am still a bit on the fence of selling straight art pieces...I guess I should try once and see how that goes...

Oh you got the talent and the speed for it man . I am too slow, when it comes to my stuff. And I don't usually draw the most famous of monsters. Which if you were going to do a table...you almost always have to do the famous stuff. Godzilla....Mothra....King Ghidorah....and MechaGodzilla lol.

Those are the things that sell. I just like the obscured Kaiju way too much lol.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

KaijuKid In reply to earthbaragon [2014-06-07 13:30:14 +0000 UTC]

I've actually never had a table yet at G-Fest, keep trying to every year but stuff just keeps coming up and we never reserve a table. Β All I've done the last couple of years was to take reservations on whatever the graphic novel was that year, print off a batch at home and take them to hand out as favors because without a reserved table I was informed they'd have my butt for selling them, so basically it was just a way to hand out comics and get my name out there, which garners good favor of course but is otherwise kind of expensive
One of these days we intend to join the Artist Alley ranks.

earthbaragon In reply to KaijuKid [2014-06-07 20:27:53 +0000 UTC]

Oh you can do it easy. You got a lot of skill and speed for it. I am sure you would make a killing with some of your comics especially this three Godzilla one you are going to do.

KaijuKid In reply to earthbaragon [2014-06-07 22:16:39 +0000 UTC]

All complimentaries appreciated, but sadly Fest execs told me no on the comics because of IDW having to pay royalties for their material, said it wouldn't be fair for me to also get into the comics racket.Β  Yeah I know it makes a ton of sense, but so it goes.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

earthbaragon In reply to KaijuKid [2014-06-07 23:26:26 +0000 UTC]

Well, the same argument was used to some extend back in the day when G-Fan magazine nearly got canned by Toho. They were doing like 8 or 9 pages of this on going Godzilla comic in it. And Toho said nope...you are using that to sell your crappy Godzilla magazine so stop it. That's when the fan art completely stopped for along time in that book too.

I can see their argument...but don't mean I got to like it lol.
