Description Snowflakes! w00t! ...and posted before Christmas... I'm impressed with myself, lol.

first half of this deviation is available at [link]

14 different snowflakes made (repeats were made but only to give to people who don't know each other ...I hope ). I would've liked to make more, but material limitations prohibited me from exceeding 5" diameter snowflakes, not to mention time and the fact that I was doing this during finals week instead of studying.
all patterns came from a book given to me by a friend last Christmas, 99 Snowflakes, published by Leisure Arts
each snowflake was individually hand-crocheted (by yours truely), starched, and pinned until dry [link]
After all that and after these pix were taken, they were turned into ornaments by adding string

Merry Christmas!

Wow these are absolutely beautiful! I've tried crocheting but I never seem to get it as even and neat as you did here Great idea for unique Christmas ornaments!

Thanks!
I've found the trick to neat and even is to stretch and block them into submission, lol.

you know... these would make brilliant patterns to pipe out in royal icing for a cake... you may have just made me rich lol! but really this could work...

flutterbyfae In reply to Heidilu22 [2008-02-05 15:09:17 +0000 UTC]

Pipe out in icing??
Cake decorating has never been my forte so I can't begin to imagine being able to replicate crochet in icing. If you think you can do it, though, I'll wish you the best of luck (and ask you to maybe note me or comment here or send me a slice so I can see the final product ).
...of course, given what I've seen of your culinary arts so far I wouldn't doubt you could do it

Also, let me know if you want larger photos of individual snowflakes or anything.

Wow. You're amazing and nuts. (I hope you passed despite crafting instead of studying!) That one far right center stands out as a hands down favorite, though they're all beautiful.

Well I'm definitely nuts, lol, but I did pass all my courses, thank you.

That snowflake is one of my faves, too. I must've made at least 5 from that pattern!

Clothes, hm? That sounds like a great idea. I've already seen them on scarves (I love [link] ), but it would be neat to see them on other types of clothing as well. Thanks for the suggestion!

It's so true! How many different patterns did you make?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

flutterbyfae In reply to adnileb [2008-01-19 20:22:41 +0000 UTC]

One of each pattern is shown between the two pics so... *counts* 14 different ones, plus a bunch of repeats (not shown).

This reminds me of some antique ornaments my grandmother made many many years ago. Beautiful.

flutterbyfae In reply to SusanPhillips [2008-01-18 14:07:14 +0000 UTC]

Were they snowflakes too or another kind of ornament? I love antique stuff, especially since it usually holds up better than more modern things

SusanPhillips In reply to flutterbyfae [2008-01-18 15:20:05 +0000 UTC]

They were snowflakes.
