Description Hi guys! I went to visit and we discussed rehairing. She uses this method, instead of the single plug. I'd like you to take a look at this and try both! See what you like more.

I'm not the author, but no, it will not melt unless it's in the oven for a really long time

both methods look really interesting, my question is if youre recyling hair from the original pony, whats the best way to go about it? (CLEARLY this paticular one wont work as you said, but any help would be nice :3)

Quick question, do you ever use polymer clay on these? If so do you bake them or boil them?

CustomAnon In reply to Crazypurplebat [2012-08-24 00:35:07 +0000 UTC]

Yes I do-- it's better to bake them, but it runs the risk of burning. Boiling it never burns, but the clay ends up a bit softer and crumblier-- solid to paint over, but different when sanding and carving.

Target has the cheapest prices from what I've seen.
You can also purchase them off of Amazon and other online stores.

do you HAVE to de-hair a pony in order to customize it? Because this looks like a tedious process...

nialleririshgirl In reply to Wakeangel2001 [2013-07-28 02:39:16 +0000 UTC]

you can use clay for a mane

I used a Sharpie mark to recolor my pony's hair. It is effective, but only works if you want a darker color, and the original color will affect the shade you recolor it. (Pink hair colored with a brown sharpie makes it a kind of red-brown, etc.) Also, it stains the body a lot. I am trying this method again and mummifying the body with masking tape first to avoid this. Also going to try washing out excess ink.

Only if you want a different colour of hair than your "victim" has.

I'm pretty sure you do. This part, the rehairing part, is the part I'm currently dreading...

I'm probably just an idiot, but I can't really keep up with the explanation. Do you know if there are any video tutorials on anything like this? I'm much more visual learner, I guess.

I tried this method for my first rehairing and I have to say, it was quite easy. Well, it still took almost a day till I was done with it, but the result is just fine.
Anyways, many thanks for all your tutorials, they were a great help!

well i'll probably give it a try when i get around to ordering some hair that is. had some issues with the single plug method, mostly a sizing issue, but for my first pony i guess thats to be expected now i'm about half way done with the mane, and doing better at judging the appropriate thickness of the plug.

So when i get around to making another pony, and i order some hair i'll definitely give this other method a try.
