OH MY GOD you MUST watch DS9; I honestly have no arguments against it. It's so fantastically written, and realΒ (it's less bouncing around making out with aliens and more actual politics and hardships and occupations and religions) and the main andΒ secondary characters have deep backgrounds and well-rounded characters, and there's really no 'bad or good' characters; everyone has their flaws and their redemptions. And as an added plus to me, the character Odo is basically asexual canon and has a fantastic romantic (but not sexual; it's never shown and it's never even implied like EVERY other character in their own relationships in the show) relationship with Kira and it's literally perfect and as an asexual I really needed that representation so 1 million brownie points to DS9. Β Β

Hehehehe I have many Trekkie friends here on DA who encourage me to do so too, so I believe I'll watch it ~
I must first overcome my reservations about Startrek without Spock in it, since I'm such a spock-obsessed Trekkie hehehe ^^
But from what I've seen here on DA, DS9 seems to be full of very interesting characters and I'm more and more tempted to watch it ^^ 2015 might be the right year for it ^^
(BTW I love the "bouncing around making up with aliens" thingy, but I see your point XD )

haha well I hope you enjoy when you do get around to watching! Also I love TOS type of more or less light-heartedness too, but I have deep feels for shows that can successfully create a relatively realistic world of power-hungry manipulative people (Dukat/ Kai Winn) and good people with understandable flaws in their personalities (Kira) and beings searching for the truth about themselves and being super sensitive and controlling because of it (Odo) etc etc (much like the Harry Potter characters if I may say so myself....

same <3 I guess because it's a permanent residence with the ability to have a lot of recurring characters. I love that about it--having certain Bajoran or Cardassian secondary characters have almost as much screen time as the main characters.Β

Yes, indeed. Garak could have shown up every other episode as far as I'm concerned (and almost did in the last two seasons)...I also liked that DS9 was willing to move away from the "everyone in Starfleet (except the admirals) are wonderful people" theme of TNG and actually have real character development. Gave us some terrific episodes that TNG would never have touched on, like "In the Pale Moonlight" and "Inter Arma Leges Silentia" or even "Far Beyond the Stars." I also liked the complexity of the villains. Dukat was a ruthless egotistical dictator--but he could also be charming and was a good father once a certain Bajoran major clubbed him over the head and made him see reason. Even Kai Winn, the viper that she is, has the occasional human moment where one sympathizes with her (usually followed by a renewed zeal for evil

My favorite character is Bashir simply because his genetic modification made him very relatable to me, as in many ways it resembles Aspergers. But beyond that, I absolutely love them all. Even of the recurring characters the only one I can honestly say I didn't like was Leeta. I wasn't a huge fan of Bareil or Shakaar, but mostly because I thought Kira could do better.

I didn't mind Leeta so much; she was annoying at first, but then I warmed up to her. And yeah...Kira just really likes her commanding men

Poor Odo. The first time I watched through DS9 I was rather interested in a girl who was totally oblivious to the fact, so I felt his pain.
