Well no absurdly shaped centrifuge, but it still has the look.
I rather like it.

Hi, thanks for commenting. I haven't had time to draw lately but thanks for the encouragement. It keeps me going. I hope I'll be able to put up some more artwork soon.

Thanks. My job doesn't involve drawing so what you see here is something I do as a hobby. I'm in California.

but nice hobby. You have the art school ...?
I have a waiter school: D and draw as an amateur because I enjoy it. I have to Slovakia in Central Europe. I have 26 years. And how old are you?

I did take some art classes in the past. I was the person who was drawing spaceships and aliens while others were drawing more traditional subjects. I stopped drawing for a while but I'm not sure why. Now that I've uploaded some drawings here, I'm happy to be drawing again. My age? Hmmm....

Very nice drawing. I really like the way that you are able to capture very minute, and hard to draw, details within the exterior of the ship. Everything seems precisely designed, and is very well textured, on a three dimensional level.
If you don't mind, I do have one question. That is, would be, outside of the above two sources, do you have recommendations for seeking out source material for these kinds of designs? Not really sure if I want to begin myself (don't draw all that much (yet)), but am very curious of this subject (what was asked).

I highly recommend the works of Syd Mead (Leonov), Ron Cobb and Joe Johnston. These guys have been around for a while but I still find them inspirational.
I know you said outside of the two sources but I suggest looking into the line drawings Syd Mead did for 2010 and even Aliens. I haven't seen any of his recent books so I don't know what they contain but I recommend some of his older books like Oblagon and the three Studio Image books if you can find them.
I don't know if there's a collection of Ron Cobb's artwork but his work is worth searching for. He worked on Star Wars, Alien, Aliens and others. His web site, roncobb.net, seems to be under construction a lot. I think it will be a great resource if it ever showcases his drawings.
Joe Johnston made a lot of sketches for the original Star Wars trilogy and I suggest purchasing the book of his artwork called The Star Wars Sketchbook. It's filled with B/W pen and ink drawings of spacecraft and it will make you want to draw right after putting the book down. There are also Sketchbooks for Empire and Return of the Jedi which I also recommend. These are long out of print but get them used if you have to.

Very cool! Classic space design is something I truly appreciate. While having some semblance to the Alexei Leonov in Odyssey Two, I still feel your creation is something born totally anew. Also, your rendition of the picture is excellent - I can feel the vastness of this massive ship. Great work!

Crazy greebles! Really love the classical, hard-edged, and just plain massive feel of this ship. Do you have a preferred blocking method during your initial layouts, or do you tend to work in an iterative fashion?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SpireKat In reply to PlasmaFire3000 [2012-02-27 05:40:27 +0000 UTC]
Thanks. I don't really have a preferred blocking method but I'll just put down some simple guidelines to get the basic shape of the ship and then start encrusting them with details. Most of the details are made up on the fly and aren't blocked out. It's not really a case where the blocking gets refined at each step.

I like the eye-wandering complexity of this, and especially that nothing is labelled. It lets the viewer try to determine for themselves what the different parts of this ship are contributing to the whole. I've have to keep telling myself not to ask about things like the power generation method(s) and propulsion, and crew compliment, and especially that damned enticing X-shaped structure near the stern (I keep on going back and forth on whether it's a solar array or a massive heat sink for a fusion generator, or maybe just a giant Connect Fourtm game). Anyhow, very good job, sir!
