Description In this shot i see so many similarities between thngs that we make mechanically to fly, and what birds can do more naturally and more beautifully.

Many thanks well the best tip i can give you for capturing this type of shot is know the area and meter all the spots so you know you can get the shutter
and exposure settings required. i then concentrate on getting the birds in the frames.

Thanks for the fav on a shot of mine. Having now looked through your own work it means even more

This shot is beautiful, i know it takes real experience and opportunism to get such a sharp shot with a hint of movement like you did.

Keep up the great work.

Thankyou after reading what you said about the portrait crop i see where your coming from and totaly agree, the fact he's looking vertically and his hover position the action is going that way
from up and down, my eyes are asking whats below!!!!!! I will definatly take this into consideration next time, Cheers

Amazing capture! The only thing I see that could be improved is that I think it would be a more interesting shot in a portrait orientation, vetical instead of horizontal, by cropping out the blank space on the sides of the bird. Aside from that, still a top-notch photo.

Love the way the splayed feathers are sort of semi-translucent... adds to the motion blur in giving a sense of movement

THEDOC4 In reply to jimmahh [2006-08-06 19:43:58 +0000 UTC]

Thanks i was originally trying to stop everything dead!!!!! but i like the contrasting of the wing beats to the stopped bird

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jimmahh In reply to THEDOC4 [2006-08-07 11:57:04 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, they're really difficult to capture reliably, but the half-sharp, half-motion-blurred kind of shots capture the sense of a bird in flight so much better than something that almost looks frozen...

I totaly agree!!!!!!!!

NZB [2006-08-05 19:11:51 +0000 UTC]

What was your shutter speed? The wings were faster then it, thats for sure.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

THEDOC4 In reply to NZB [2006-08-05 19:14:19 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes and when you think it was 1/2400thsec i think i would need 1/4000thsec tostop those dead!!!!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

NZB [2006-08-05 13:08:30 +0000 UTC]

Sure thing. I really love how you captured the movement of the wings yet managed to keep the bird still.

It's a splendid picture. Can you remember or verify at what shutterspeed you made this one? (I suppose 1/500)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

THEDOC4 In reply to SmoothEyes [2006-06-25 11:33:39 +0000 UTC]

Thankyou!!!!! yes this was taken at 1/2000thsec thats the minimum really for birds of this size, thats what makes it so difficult. trying to find a good place where such high shutters can be got and at the same time
having some predictability with the birds too.
