Description The moment a Marsh Tit comes in to land on a branch...frozen in time with a high speed flash and a lot of patience - i took about 200 photos at the time, about 30 were trying to get this shot, this is the only one that actually worked and you can see the head and wing clearly...!!

This image is available as a print - please contact me for more details....!!

How did you trigger the shot exactly?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Amazonofexeter In reply to nebarotype [2007-02-04 21:27:29 +0000 UTC]

by hand - the stump is on the opposite side of the tree to the birdfeeders...so they came regularly to this spot, then it was just a case of waiting for the birds to come and as soon as i saw a flicker of feathers i pressed the shutter...used fresh batteries and had the camera on repeating shots so just kept shooting for a burst of 3 shots per go....got this one in about 12 attempts...was stuck for time otherwise i would have waited and kept trying!

WHOAH. Great catch! I'd be sitting there trying to bracket the thing...I birdies! Your next stop..hummingbirds? THAT would be a pain to get....cause first...you have to find them...then you have to somehow get their attention on something red...shew..tricksy birdies.

Cheers!!!!! err...yes, i took a lot of pics tht day, and took about a dozen or so i think trying to get wings etc in right place....just a case of setting the flash to high speed sync and then holding the shutter down at the right moment - too soon and the flash scared them off and too late and the bird was either sat or gone again....i gave up after i thought i'd got this one....bit scary for them else...lol! hummingbirds would be great...my brother has them visiting at times...will have to persuade him to set up a proper hide at the right levels etc so its all ready when i'm able to visit! have you tried for them yet??!!

I never see them anymore now that I'm not at my Grandmother's house in the summer time. She used to get a bunch, too. Shame. I miss them. .0.o.

Lovely photograph.
it is really difficult to capture a bird at flight, but you have managed it very well.
the position of the wings is perfect here. it is interesting the they are sharp and clear while the body of the bird shows movement.
whenever i tried to take pictures of birds for my stock account, they usually flew away and the photos turned out totally blurry

Amazonofexeter In reply to elisafox [2006-11-30 23:36:28 +0000 UTC]

Thank you !!!
I didn't know i'd get this opportunity until i reached the hide, and then saw where they were coming to land and tried t get this shot....great relief when i saw it on the screen at home! I think the flash was set to high speed flash and also second curtain sync which means the wings etc are frozen at the end of the movement rather than the start (which is what the normal flash setting allows).
How do you set up a stock account - is it very much work to run?? I am tempted as i have a lot of pictures which would be usable if elements are cut out from them due to poor backgrounds etc. Thx for any advice!

love the amount of motion that you managed to capture in this and still manage to have a clear image of the bird's head and wings

Beautiful photo shot of the bird, I seriously love the wing movement you can faintly see in the photo. I bet it would have taken a while to get the right one, and this is a great photo ^_^

Awww, thank you!!!! I spent about 2 hours in the hide at a local nature reserve photographing the birds coming in and out of the feeding station, took about 300 shots, i kept 12 photos that contained birds flying into this perch (the others were empty....!) but only one showed both the head and the wings clearly!!! Was very happy when it came up on the computer screen!!!
Glad you like the pic!!
