I have had this stamp on my laptop for a while but haven't been keen on posting it till now. This is something I actually feel strongly about. I am not just pro-choice for abortions, I am pro-choice for women's rights. Every women in the world should have a choice of whether or not she can abort or not. Below are some common arguments I have seen pro-lifers use to slam abortions. also, keep in mind I am talking about fully legal abortions that are safe, not backyard ones, mmkay?

"You're murdering a baby!"

A baby is not a baby until is is alive and breathing. Yes, I know people refer to as a baby until they find out they are pregnant but from a medical perspective. It is estimated till around 12 weeks, the fetus' brain hasn't developed enough for it to actually register pain. In Australia, abortions are legally performed until 12 weeks. Before 12 weeks, the fetus can't even feel pain. So no, women are not murduring their babies (otherwise our jails would be a lot more full!)

"You should have used a condom/ been on the pill!"

Newsflash guys, contraception doesn't always work. Condoms break, the pill sometimes doesn't work and pretty much every other contraception method has a small failure rate! Should the women live with an unwanted child because of that? No. An abortion is a last ditch attempt to prevent a mistake becoming something much bigger.

"You shouldn't have sex then!"

Er, it's the 21st century now! If people want to have sex for pleasure, they can! You're seriously going to tell everyone in long-term relationships they're not allowed to show their love for one another? Sorry, but I don't buy that argument.

"Well, it's not the child's fault she was raped!"

You're right on this one, it's not the baby's fault. But should a women be forced to carry the product of her rapist's crime? How would you feel if that happened to you and you had to tell your kid that his/her dad was a rapist?

"You can always adopt the baby out!"

What, so shoving the baby in a failing system is going to fix it? I know in Australia that it is EXTREMELY difficult to adopt, and that is why so many parents go overseas to do it. That child could be shoved from foster home to foster home, never fitting in and never feeling loved. Is that what the pro-lifers want?

Enough rambling now. I've had enough. I'm not going to be debating this too strognly with anyone who wishes to comment so don't expect a response unless you manage to really push it.
