I'm guessing you mean contrast right?
It does look a bit soft in the photo.. the reflections of the paint sorta lit up with the photo.. looks a bit more sharper on the actual artwork. Have a look when I get a photo of it cleared, the detail will really come out then.

It's not black, it's blue It's the rough water ripples seen from underneath the water, mixed with shadows reflecting from out the water, and also from the coral.
