I don't know if you are/were a fan of Malice Mizer... but things certainly was never the same after the drummer died. They have attempted to replace him with supports, but things were never the same.
I am of a mind that we should give the new guy a chance, however. Perhaps I listen to the music more than I look at the band members on most days, but I think in this cult of personality that the band had created for themselves, the loss of one member would start a feud between the fans. And it is really, really difficult for the new guy to start to participate - after all, he's got some really large shoes to fill. I have no doubt Masashi has talent and heart... we just need to give him a chance. There can only be one Jasmine You, so I think we should never have to compare Masashi to him. Masashi is his own guy... and he's doing a pretty decent job at the bass, I think.
And... as always, thank you very much for your kind words.

Very well done my friend, very well done indeed ^^

Why, thank you very much!
The person depicted in this piece passed away after a short period of illness very suddenly. And since he was about my age (30), the feeling of impermanence struck home like a sucker punch to the gut. It's one of those things that you cannot fail to emote towards, I believe. So, thank you for telling me that you can see the fruit of my efforts. That is very reassuring.

Adored?
No, no... respected.
I think I am among some of the stranger bunch of "fans" out there. I've recently been talking to yet another older visual rock fan. Just like me, she first found out about them in 1999. Just like me, we were both a little older when we first encountered these bands (she was in her last year of highschool, I was in my first year of university). Over the last 10 years, we stayed and continued with this peculiar genre because of a similar reason: We like the music. But our perception of the musicians themselves differed drastically.
Perhaps gender plays a role here. I have to give them my respect for having the guts to dress up the way they do to create the music they did. That's something that shocked and surprised me in the first place, and that respect never went away. I know that a lot of the younger fans adore their idols. I can live without them; I don't adore them. But what I do is I respect them and consider myself pretty lucky to have discovered them in the first place. A strange dynamic, to be sure.

You can draw fantastic pieces of art, from a single word...?
That is one ability I crave to have...

Well...
Let's put it this way, this picture was done using photographs as a reference. The mental scene built from the word "Serenade" has a lot to do with the definition and the usage of serenades as a form of music. It's definitiond-driven.
Serenades are a form of love song. However, the word has estended to the practice of people (usually men) singing love songs under their loved ones' window in the middle of the night in the hopes that their beloved will respond (favourably, hopefully). That is why there is a "call-and-answer". Which means... I guess you're technically right. I -could- have drawn something based on the word "serenade". However, this is not exactly the case here...

Exactly! The male calls and the female answers... just like the song birds.
In fact, our genes are very similar to most animals in the world. Those of us who are warm blooded share close to 70% similarities. Chimps and humans share >95% similarities in our genes. It's just another one of those wierd and quirky facts of nature...

Which film?
There are at least two that comes to mind: The Fly (1958) and The Fly (1986).
I mean... I hate to tell you this... but I used to work with flies. A lot. I also muck around with their genes with other people's help, too. Now... I didn't turn into a half-fly, half-guy thing, didn't I?

Working with flies makes me sound more like Sherlock Holmes?
How did that work out?
The man deals with cigar ashes and plant leaves, right?
(Besides, now I have a mental image of Holmes poisoning their dog Gladstone again... not nice.)
Aah... the "Machine" you are thinking of is called a "transportation device", but it is more accurately described as a "disintegration-integration device." Unfortunately for the main character, when he stepped into the machine to try thing out for himself, a little fly was also caught in the chamber. What happened at the end of the "re-integration" process is this half man-half fly hybrid.
Moral to today's story: Disintegration-integration devices should only be used in sterile environments...

Well, he DID lure flies into a glass, and play
a chromatic scale, claiming that he could change their flight
direction, in the recent movie...

Aah... yes. You are absolutely right, me mate. He -did- somehow lure them in one by one into this glass cylinder. In the recent movie, of course.
In my case, I actually had to look for the ones that didn't move/fly around. No wonder that connection's not sinking in.
But I promise, promise, promise you... I am not drinking anything used for eye surgeries.

The last time I left a bottle of cider out... I got wasps and bees (read: Never again!)
Although... here's the question for you: In the lab, we raise genetically altered flies to do experiments on them. What do I do with a bunch of wild flies? Teach them how to fly in a circle?
No, wait. That's a bored Holmes...

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to porygon-J [2010-01-24 07:31:16 +0000 UTC]
... I guess I can't argue with that logic, no.
Well... we do have some flies that are really bad at flying and some really bad at directions. I suppose we can cross-breed them and see what their off-springs would do. But... I guess it's always going to be tough getting flies out of a room. You know, I developed a way to grab flies from the air while they flew by while I was in the lab...
That ability had gone out by the wayside, of course. I blame lack of practice.
...wait, is that what Holmes did as well, catching them one-by-one out of the air...?!

Thank you so very much!
I used severeal photos as a reference for this picture. They helped a lot!
... When I first heard Serenade, it felt as if someone took my heart and wrung it like a wet towel; squeezing all the tears out of my eyes.
... I guess that's why I call myself a sentimental fool.

This piece certainly took quite a bit of time, but I had help. There was a photograph that I used as a reference for this picture which helped me with both the composition as well as the details.
I consider myself still in the learning phase, and these photo references are my crutches along the way.

You rock!
I think they're going to keep "quintet" even if they don't get a new member. I read a recent interview somewhere where Kamijo talked about it and was saying that Jasmine You-sama will always be a member of the band. I get the feeling they'll keep crediting him similar to how Malice Mizer did Kami-sama.
Oh, I didn't know that! Wow, that gives the PV so much more meaning. Especially when Kamijo is at the window, it definitely fits. Jasmine You-sama loved the sky and being close to it, so I figured Kamijo was looking at the sky to try to see him, and this new meaning you have taught me makes me believe he may also be calling for him. Thank you!
Oh, do you mind if I post your quote of that meaning on [link] ? I'll credit you, of coarse, and send a link to this pic if you let me! ^_^

I rock, really?
Oh, dear... and here I am thinking that I'd just roll on by...
I would love to see them keeping the Quintet title as well. Joking aside, I am very sure they would keep the title and keep the memory of Jasmine You-san alive and well. The band would not have been where it is now without him. You might be exactly right in thinking that they would continue to credit him the way Malice Mizer did for Kami-san.
You are more than welcome.
I suppose I retain memory from an older generation where folks still sing serenades under the window of their beloved at night in the hope that their call would be answered. It is indeed a very romantic notion. When we juxtapose these two scenes side by side, it's easy to imagine that it's Kamijo - wait, no, the whole band and the fans - calling out to our eternally beloved, hoping to receive an answer. Just like other serenaders in the distant past, we know that this may have been a futile call; a desperate plea. But, somewhere in the back of our minds, we hoped that the song reaches its target and it would be heard. It is certainly the case here.
