Description OK... I admit it.
I'm a vocaloid geek.
Can you believe that I actually doubted the whole phenomenon in the first place?

The inspiration (and much of the imagery) is taken from the (in)famous Vocaloid song "Imitation Black" ( [link] )

Imitation Black
Lyrics: NatsuP.
Composer: NatsuP.
Arrangement: NatsuP.
Guitar&Mix: haku.

This version features the H&A gang.

Merci beaucoup, ma amie. C'est mon plaisir entièrement .
I have a big soft spot for the Vocaloids. If only I can keep up with the ever-expanding crew!

Vous avez tout à fait les bienvenus!

Quite right, as well!
Not that I'm helping since I have four Vocaloid OC's...
One of which does not have a voice.

C'est mon plaisir aussi, ma amie.
Merci de nous aider me pratiquer mon français!

Well, the official (and fan-derived) crew has been growing like wild-fire. I can hardly keep up. I've already given up on keeping in touch with the multitude of OC's out there.
Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I do have OC myself (I call him a "fan'loid"). And he is in need of an update in a bad way:
Yuukuri was supposed to run on a variant of Kaito's voice, but even the voice bank hasn't been completely tweaked out. (I've been using Haku Yowane's voice for songs, however. I've got a singing track done for an old enka. But I completely fail at matching music to lyrics so that project has been put on hold for years. (I've also made myself into an UTAU'loid through a meme a friend of mine made. But that one didn't go anywhere far. Lansanen Ame had a clever name, but the character didn't get very far...)

I am, however, planning on at least two more pieces of Dell and Haku (one is already in the colouring stage before everything else came up and I had to take a break. The other one has the lines done.) I am also considering on expanding my "Vocaloid Hospital"   in the future (because the ones who don't show up in this picture are supposed to be the nurses. But I never got to it, either... ) There are a few more ideas floating in my head that will, hopefully, come to fruition in the future. If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them, too. You never know, it might be interesting.

Pas de problème du tout!

That all sounds like fantastic ideas!
I actually just mixed something in what
I thought Yuukuri's voice would sound like!

I'd like to show it to you!

Comme je l'ai dit, le plaisir est pour moi.
Il est de mon honneur de vous appeler une amie.

Thanks for sharing your clip! I'm actually amazed at how quickly you managed to put this together. Just... how int he world did you do it? With which program?
If I knew how to put things together in this short order, Haku would be singing a lot faster a lot sooner! This: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VbdTV… is the song I was talking about. I have the singing track almost all done and it just needs a bit of tweaking. My problem is that I don't actually know how to sync the voice track with the background music. If I can get that figured out...

In the meantime... this version was pretty good... but not quite what I had in mind for Yuukuri. It's mostly because I'm a baritone myself so I tend to see him singing at a slightly lower key but with the same brightness. But, regardless of what I imagined... this is a really impressive feat you've done. I stand in awe of your abilities!

Aww ~ Voilà la gentillesse de vous !!

You're so welcome! And thanks so much!
But it was nothing really!
I just converted the file to mp3/wav file and imported it to audacity (that's the program I use)
And then proceeded to use effects to change both the tempo and pitch without altering the voice or instruments!
And you said he resembled Haku, so I used her as a base file!

And if you sent me an mp3 file of the voiceover and the background music I'd be happy to sync it for you!
And I see, I was thinking of going lower so the voice might resemble Akaito, but then I thought if I made it too low, it'd be too much.
But I could alter it again to make it more of a baritone pitch!

Again thank you!!

Aa, non. Merci de me donner une chance d'être gentil!

It really is a big deal for me... knowing that you can do something like that so quickly is really amazing! I have to look into this Audacity program at some point in time. It looks like it can do some really amazing thing. (And technically, Yuukuri runs off of Kaito's voice. But that doesn't matter at all.) I need to look into getting my files back. I've changed computer since my last experiments with Vocaloids. I know it's in my portable hard-drive somewhere... I just need to find it! (... sorry. It's been a really long time...

And thank you very much for offering! I'd love to see what you've come up with.

Vous êtes les bienvenus! Mais vous devriez être bon tout le temps!

I should try working with his voice instead of Haku's then!
Is Yuukuri's voice higher or lower's than Kaito's?
And it's all alright!

Absolutely!
You're so welcome!

Je essaie d'être bon tout le temps. mais il ne est pas toujours facile. Cependant, je veux toujours faire de mon mieux.

Yuukuri is a baritone. So his voice is lower-pitched than Kaito, perhaps between Kaito and Akaito. It's similar to this one... but a tad higher-pitched: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBkEDr… (And hey... I get to show you one of my all-time favourite songs. That's not half bad, isn't it?

But really, I want to thank you for putting so much thought into this. I don't know how to thank you enough!
If there's anything I can do for your, please don't hesitate to let me know!

Je crois que le plus que je peux faire, ce est aussi le moins que je puisse faire...

There are a few songs that I really like, this is one of them. I love the lyrics in this one and the tune together, which is pretty rare for Vocaloid songs. (A lot of the time the lyrics can be great but the melody so-so. On the other hand, some of the nicest songs have... rather questionable lyrics. Which is totally unfortunate... If you ever cover this one, please let me know!

This means... I also get to show you this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDpwe3… (one of my favourite songs, one of my favourite dances... with two of my favourite Voyakiloids. Can't go wrong with this combo!

And like what I said... I'll do my best to keep the conversation going.
And don't forget to tell me when I go overboard!

Oh, no, no, no... don't worry about not "keeping up".
When I run too far ahead, just give me a good yank to get me back on track. I have no problem with that at all!
(Bill does that for me from time to time, too.)

I figured... well, there's an age difference between us. It means I had a head-start. It wouldn't be fair to let that get between us, right?

I didn't mean it like that~
I just don't wanna come off as dumb.
That's the last thing I want.

And Bill is smarter than me too!

And that there is! But of course I wouldn't let that interfere with our friendship!!
I honestly have a bit of a hard time interacting with people my age.
A couple years ago my Uncle was hosting a barbeque, and these two kids
there were around my age, but they were a little... snooty.
And spoke to each other in sign language.

So I hung out with the adult crowd.
We had more in common, we were joking back and forth~
They actually wished I lived in the area so we could talk more.

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to LC-TV [2014-11-24 16:16:29 +0000 UTC]

Oh, no. I don't think you'll ever come out as dumb to me.
So it's also the last thing you should worry about.

You see... I'm the older of two kids in the family. I've always had the idea that I am going to be the "cool older brother" or that "cool cousin" in the family. It eventually turned into the desire of wanting to be that "cool senpai" that folks want to meet. I don't know how good of a job I am doing, but you can't blame me for trying, right? So the last thing I want is for you to feel silly or inadequate. That would totally defeat the purpose!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LC-TV In reply to SinistrosePhosphate [2014-12-04 23:32:02 +0000 UTC]

No no no! You're doing a great job, hun!
Really you are!
But how would that defeat the purpose of being a senpai?
Usually a senpai is kind of... cold.
Or do you mean "cool older cousin"?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to LC-TV [2014-12-05 02:04:05 +0000 UTC]

Well... you see... it has something to do with our background...

Where I came from, there's a real sense of family within a school. So the senpai and the kohei are nominally brothers. Being the "Cool senpai" actually is almost the same was being the "Cool older brother". But the senpai is also deemed a leader figure as well. And a good leader should not leave those he leads feeling inadequate or silly. He has a role to inspire - because the whole team becomes stronger and more cohesive if they can think like one. That's why you see these figures in sho'nen manga as the strong, silent but inspirational supporting character. In a sports-related story, these are the team leaders or the coaches.

This means... if I leave you behind... I'm not doing my job very well!

LC-TV In reply to SinistrosePhosphate [2014-12-05 07:49:26 +0000 UTC]

That definitely makes sense.
If you've done a good job as a teacher.
Your student won't need you anymore.
For there is nothing left to be taught.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to LC-TV [2014-12-05 15:40:25 +0000 UTC]

Exactly - the best teachers in the world don't always just impart specific knowledge but also how to acquire knowledge. It's the "teach a man to fish" mentality. So that what I believe goes into making a good "senpai". It's not what you see in manga or anime - they aren't cold, cool, aloof people with their noses on their foreheads. They are not romantic figures to be conquered and won over. These are people who are tasked to be a role-model and inspiration to those who come after them.

You're more than welcome!

Hemlock is more commonly heard. It's a poisonous plant that has been used since antiquity. It was said that the philosopher Socrates died from drinking a potion made of hemlock. They look like this: [link] (Pretty flowers, really. Very commonly seen, looks a lot like Queen Anne's lace.) And while "Hemlock" isn't a name... "Sherlock" is.

Asphodel is another ancient flower but a common garden plant. In Greek mythology, the there is a section of the underworld called the "Asphodel meadows". It's commonly associated with death and the Goddess Persephone. They look like this: [link]

Socrates was a philosopher who expressed some ideas that was considered as a threat to the ruling government at that time. They branded him as a traitor and wanted him to stop. He didn't. So, with a bit of a trial (which was unfair and one-sided), Socrates was condemned to die by poison. The poison he drank was an potion made from hemlock.

It's OK that you don't know them, really. These are really, really, really old things. And you know... not everyone is interested in ancient things, right?

Vocabulary is always a nice thing. It's not the only thing there is to a language, but it always helps.
The pesky thing called grammar defines a language (and compared to Greek, the English grammar is entirely too easy!)

I do agree with you, your English is at a very high level. Heaven knows, I wouldn't think I have things to teach you that you don't already know. But, hey... blame the teacher in me. You can't blame a guy who tries too hard, right?

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to anime-freak3 [2011-02-09 04:26:51 +0000 UTC]

Oh, no... you're not going to fool me with that one!
I've got Greek friends who tried to teach me Greek grammar before. Boy, all that detail's pretty darned crazy! (You know, there are no gender differences in Chinese and very little in the way of conjugation. Verb tenses are different and less formalised, too. It took me a while to get the English verb tenses down. Greek's a totally different ball game!)

Hein, if you didn't tell me that you were Greek, I would've never thought that English isn't your first language. Heaven knows, there are a lot of folks who -should- be able to speak English on dA but mangled the language so atrociously that it begings to make you wonder.

...now, to keep a tab on this inner-teacher...

anime-freak3 In reply to SinistrosePhosphate [2011-02-09 20:44:01 +0000 UTC]

i said it isnt TOO hard im also guessing its easier if youre greek xD yeah english doesnt have gender differences either! why must european languages be so hard ):<
i knew that japanese didnt change nor do they have plural i never would have thought that it could have been an asian language thing
i like how every one says chinese is the hardest language in the world...those people never tried learning greek.
i totally agree with you. heck! i try guess what country people are from judging by their spelling/grammar errors xP if theyre from an english speaking country thats just wrong. especially in grammar!
ps: in greek female is with "η" pronounced ee. plural is "οι" also pronounced ee. you can guess how confusing that is in dictation...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to anime-freak3 [2011-02-10 02:45:38 +0000 UTC]

... Now, now... coming from a language with few verb tenses, no gender and no plural forms... Greek is so very damned difficult! (Japanese and Chinese are rather similar on several accounts. Parts of the grammar are similar, too.)

Chinese is not the most difficult language to learn... it might be the most difficult to language to write and to build up a vocabulary.... but it sure isn't the most difficult to learn (and I'm not saying this because I speak Chinese.) I know a lot of folks are worried about the tones, but Madarin Chinese only has 4. Cantonese have 7 and Taiwanese have 9. OK... so we have a few thounsand homonyms (words that sound the same but have different meanings, similar to the "ee" sound you are talking about), but the context usually helps us to find out which one is which. All things considered, if there's a vote for the "most difficult language to learn", I'm voting for Greek.

I wonder if you could tell where I came from through my English? I've started to give up hope trying to deal with all the English mistakes that I see on line. And just to think, some people do it on purpose! I don't understand it, really. But I think it's just wrong... so very, very wrong.

im glad we agree that greek is the hardest language in the world. no one believes me when i tell them chinese is easier. we also have stress marks which if you place them wrong they can change the meaning completely. also, they change in tenses...
could you explain to me what exactly you mean by tones? and i know what homonyms are mr.teacher *greek word*
some people do it because they think its cool. i for one dont use apostrophes commas etc when writing on the internet but i do know proper syntax.
heres a little theory ive made up. lets see if you agree with me. if you want to sound smart while speaking english speak greek

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to anime-freak3 [2011-02-12 06:20:20 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I am very, very sure that Greek's harder to learn than Chinese. You definitely have my vote here.

Tones are the inflections that you are talking about. They look like stress marks and they change the pronounciations of the vowel sound in a phoneme. Basically, it's how many ways can you pronounce the same vowel sound so they sound different... and yet all have the same vowel quality. In English, there are two "tones": stressed and unstressed. They used to make a big difference in spoken poetry in the past. Folks don't care about it too much nowdays, I am afraid.

Aah, you're right. There are lots of words in English that have a Greek origin. This is great, really. I don't have to explain these words to you at all! It makes my life a whole lot easier!

Hein, my Greek isn't good enough to be "spoken", whether if I do it on-line or not. There has to be other ways of sounding smart, right? (I guess sounding smart might involve the right punctuation in the right places. I don't know why people decide to omit them, really. I don't think it sounds cool, I find it very confusing. Considering that I have to read some very messy handwriting during the day, the last thing I want to see is "messy" writing in type on-line at night!)

and going back to vocabulary, its easy to build one in greek because all words have a root word.
unless youre reading doctor/pharmacist handwriting i think youre in the clear. if not, answer me this. why do they write like that!? can they read their own handwriting!?
i can only imagine how hard it is to read messy handwriting in chinese...you do one stroke wrong and it could be a whole different word...i think greek and chinese are on par...

Either Greek or Latin... I totally agree with you. I tried to learn Latin, too (I used to sing in a choir). Let's just say that it didn't turn out very well for me, either...

Oh, you meant speaking in words that had a Greek root! Oh, that's not a problem, then. I do it all the time! Lots of medically and scinetifically-related words have Greek and Latin roots. You see... I -do- have to read doctor's hand writing all the time... worse yet, I'm a doctor myself. Why do we write like that? That's a great question. One of my colleagues actually did a whole research project called "Chicken Scratch: Why do doctors write like that?!" a number of years ago. The conclusion is two-fold: we don't get taught how to write anymore - little school boys and girls used to have to learn how to "write" (or, "draw letters") when they are in kindergarten or first grade. We don't do a lot of that anymore. We have completely taken out the classes that taught kids how to write cursively for decades. With the advent of typing, people aren't so good with spelling anymore, either. All of these things add up to a tendency towards bad writing. And think of it... how many words do you actually -write- in a day? Multiply that by a factor of about 3... and that's how much a doctor needs to write in a day (usually). So... they get tired, running short on time... and the handwriting suffers accordingly. And it means it's down to the pharmacists and other doctors to have to read their really bad writing...

Messy Chinese writing actually isn't too bad. In fact, you see a lot of them in people's "kanji tattoos". That's pretty much how bad it could look... which isn't half bad, really. We recognise the general shape of the word, so when one or two strokes go out of whack... we can usually still understand it (unless we're missing something critical, then it's a guessing game). Spelling isn't much of a problem, either. So... I still think Greek's worse!
