C'est mon plaisir aussi, ma amie.
Merci de nous aider me pratiquer mon français!
Well, the official (and fan-derived) crew has been growing like wild-fire. I can hardly keep up. I've already given up on keeping in touch with the multitude of OC's out there.
Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I do have OC myself (I call him a "fan'loid"). And he is in need of an update in a bad way:
Yuukuri was supposed to run on a variant of Kaito's voice, but even the voice bank hasn't been completely tweaked out. (I've been using Haku Yowane's voice for songs, however. I've got a singing track done for an old enka. But I completely fail at matching music to lyrics so that project has been put on hold for years. (I've also made myself into an UTAU'loid through a meme a friend of mine made. But that one didn't go anywhere far. Lansanen Ame had a clever name, but the character didn't get very far...)
I am, however, planning on at least two more pieces of Dell and Haku (one is already in the colouring stage before everything else came up and I had to take a break. The other one has the lines done.) I am also considering on expanding my "Vocaloid Hospital" in the future (because the ones who don't show up in this picture are supposed to be the nurses. But I never got to it, either... ) There are a few more ideas floating in my head that will, hopefully, come to fruition in the future. If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them, too. You never know, it might be interesting.

Absolument, Cher!
Pas de problème du tout!
That all sounds like fantastic ideas!
I actually just mixed something in what
I thought Yuukuri's voice would sound like!
I'd like to show it to you!

Comme je l'ai dit, le plaisir est pour moi.
Il est de mon honneur de vous appeler une amie.
Thanks for sharing your clip! I'm actually amazed at how quickly you managed to put this together. Just... how int he world did you do it? With which program?
If I knew how to put things together in this short order, Haku would be singing a lot faster a lot sooner! This: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VbdTV… is the song I was talking about. I have the singing track almost all done and it just needs a bit of tweaking. My problem is that I don't actually know how to sync the voice track with the background music. If I can get that figured out...
In the meantime... this version was pretty good... but not quite what I had in mind for Yuukuri. It's mostly because I'm a baritone myself so I tend to see him singing at a slightly lower key but with the same brightness. But, regardless of what I imagined... this is a really impressive feat you've done. I stand in awe of your abilities!

Aww ~ Voilà la gentillesse de vous !!
You're so welcome! And thanks so much!
But it was nothing really!
I just converted the file to mp3/wav file and imported it to audacity (that's the program I use)
And then proceeded to use effects to change both the tempo and pitch without altering the voice or instruments!
And you said he resembled Haku, so I used her as a base file!
And if you sent me an mp3 file of the voiceover and the background music I'd be happy to sync it for you!
And I see, I was thinking of going lower so the voice might resemble Akaito, but then I thought if I made it too low, it'd be too much.
But I could alter it again to make it more of a baritone pitch!
Again thank you!!

Vous êtes les bienvenus! Mais vous devriez être bon tout le temps!
I should try working with his voice instead of Haku's then!
Is Yuukuri's voice higher or lower's than Kaito's?
And it's all alright!
Absolutely!
You're so welcome!

No no no! You're doing a great job, hun!
Really you are!
But how would that defeat the purpose of being a senpai?
Usually a senpai is kind of... cold.
Or do you mean "cool older cousin"?

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to LC-TV [2014-12-05 02:04:05 +0000 UTC]
Well... you see... it has something to do with our background...
Where I came from, there's a real sense of family within a school. So the senpai and the kohei are nominally brothers. Being the "Cool senpai" actually is almost the same was being the "Cool older brother". But the senpai is also deemed a leader figure as well. And a good leader should not leave those he leads feeling inadequate or silly. He has a role to inspire - because the whole team becomes stronger and more cohesive if they can think like one. That's why you see these figures in sho'nen manga as the strong, silent but inspirational supporting character. In a sports-related story, these are the team leaders or the coaches.
This means... if I leave you behind... I'm not doing my job very well!

That definitely makes sense.
If you've done a good job as a teacher.
Your student won't need you anymore.
For there is nothing left to be taught.

Exactly - the best teachers in the world don't always just impart specific knowledge but also how to acquire knowledge. It's the "teach a man to fish" mentality. So that what I believe goes into making a good "senpai". It's not what you see in manga or anime - they aren't cold, cool, aloof people with their noses on their foreheads. They are not romantic figures to be conquered and won over. These are people who are tasked to be a role-model and inspiration to those who come after them.

"Hemlock and Asphodel" is actually my own series. The three characters you see in this picture are actually the main characters in this story. (Both "Hemlock" and "Asphodel" are poisonous plants.)
Thank you very much for the too-kind words. I really appreciate it!
And it's always nice to hear back from other Vocaloid fans!

You're more than welcome!
Hemlock is more commonly heard. It's a poisonous plant that has been used since antiquity. It was said that the philosopher Socrates died from drinking a potion made of hemlock. They look like this: [link] (Pretty flowers, really. Very commonly seen, looks a lot like Queen Anne's lace.) And while "Hemlock" isn't a name... "Sherlock" is.
Asphodel is another ancient flower but a common garden plant. In Greek mythology, the there is a section of the underworld called the "Asphodel meadows". It's commonly associated with death and the Goddess Persephone. They look like this: [link]

Oh... is that right?
Well, in your defense... Socrates would've been history class (or philosophy class). So it's not mythological. The Asphodel Meadows... maybe it's called another name in Greek?
Either way, I'm glad to be of help. And I am really happy to know that you're actually showing an interest to this series!

You know... that's the problem with school. When you're in it and you don't really want to be in it... you pretty much sleep through everything and don't remember anything at the end. I know... because I've been there myself.
But I'm so glad to hear that you think you're learning from me. I used to be a teacher, you know? Hearing that makes me very happy!

Is that right...?
Oh, dear... that couldn't be very good. Then again, I came from Taiwan and when I was trying to learn English in Taiwan things didn't work out very well. I don't think it's because the teachers don't know anything. I think it's because you have no exposure and no chance to practice. I don't think I really started to learn English until I got to Canada.
But, well... I'm here if you need me?

... Now, now... coming from a language with few verb tenses, no gender and no plural forms... Greek is so very damned difficult! (Japanese and Chinese are rather similar on several accounts. Parts of the grammar are similar, too.)
Chinese is not the most difficult language to learn... it might be the most difficult to language to write and to build up a vocabulary.... but it sure isn't the most difficult to learn (and I'm not saying this because I speak Chinese.) I know a lot of folks are worried about the tones, but Madarin Chinese only has 4. Cantonese have 7 and Taiwanese have 9. OK... so we have a few thounsand homonyms (words that sound the same but have different meanings, similar to the "ee" sound you are talking about), but the context usually helps us to find out which one is which. All things considered, if there's a vote for the "most difficult language to learn", I'm voting for Greek.
I wonder if you could tell where I came from through my English? I've started to give up hope trying to deal with all the English mistakes that I see on line. And just to think, some people do it on purpose! I don't understand it, really. But I think it's just wrong... so very, very wrong.👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SinistrosePhosphate In reply to anime-freak3 [2011-02-12 06:20:20 +0000 UTC]
Oh, I am very, very sure that Greek's harder to learn than Chinese. You definitely have my vote here.
Tones are the inflections that you are talking about. They look like stress marks and they change the pronounciations of the vowel sound in a phoneme. Basically, it's how many ways can you pronounce the same vowel sound so they sound different... and yet all have the same vowel quality. In English, there are two "tones": stressed and unstressed. They used to make a big difference in spoken poetry in the past. Folks don't care about it too much nowdays, I am afraid.
Aah, you're right. There are lots of words in English that have a Greek origin. This is great, really. I don't have to explain these words to you at all! It makes my life a whole lot easier!
Hein, my Greek isn't good enough to be "spoken", whether if I do it on-line or not. There has to be other ways of sounding smart, right? (I guess sounding smart might involve the right punctuation in the right places. I don't know why people decide to omit them, really. I don't think it sounds cool, I find it very confusing. Considering that I have to read some very messy handwriting during the day, the last thing I want to see is "messy" writing in type on-line at night!)

Either Greek or Latin... I totally agree with you. I tried to learn Latin, too (I used to sing in a choir). Let's just say that it didn't turn out very well for me, either...
Oh, you meant speaking in words that had a Greek root! Oh, that's not a problem, then. I do it all the time! Lots of medically and scinetifically-related words have Greek and Latin roots. You see... I -do- have to read doctor's hand writing all the time... worse yet, I'm a doctor myself. Why do we write like that? That's a great question. One of my colleagues actually did a whole research project called "Chicken Scratch: Why do doctors write like that?!" a number of years ago. The conclusion is two-fold: we don't get taught how to write anymore - little school boys and girls used to have to learn how to "write" (or, "draw letters") when they are in kindergarten or first grade. We don't do a lot of that anymore. We have completely taken out the classes that taught kids how to write cursively for decades. With the advent of typing, people aren't so good with spelling anymore, either. All of these things add up to a tendency towards bad writing. And think of it... how many words do you actually -write- in a day? Multiply that by a factor of about 3... and that's how much a doctor needs to write in a day (usually). So... they get tired, running short on time... and the handwriting suffers accordingly. And it means it's down to the pharmacists and other doctors to have to read their really bad writing...
Messy Chinese writing actually isn't too bad. In fact, you see a lot of them in people's "kanji tattoos". That's pretty much how bad it could look... which isn't half bad, really. We recognise the general shape of the word, so when one or two strokes go out of whack... we can usually still understand it (unless we're missing something critical, then it's a guessing game). Spelling isn't much of a problem, either. So... I still think Greek's worse!
