Description A commissioned map, it will be used for an intro of a Middle east historical TV series airing in August.
It represents a map envisioned by an Arab cartographer in the 7th century who had to guess what may lay beyond the lands he knew. Like 'there will be dragons'. Therefore the unrealistic geography beyond a certain line.

This is a 25% version, the original is 8400 x 6000 pixels.
I started the map on Sunday morning and completed it yesterday evening. Even for me that's a new speed record.

Done in PS

UPDATE: Here is the link to the TV-Series, the map is - transformed - in the intro. [link]

Hey mate... this is pixel perfect, ive been focusing on ur details and shows the amount of concentration you have commissioned in this...
so.. was it done in 3d again by them ? as i saw the tv. serial title as well....

i plan to do something similar to this... but im still worried about the transition from the satelliete picture to the ancient map.... which is my clients requirement...

keep it up.. ur work is inspirational !

Thank you very much!
The 3d conversion was done by the digital artist of the show; I provided a layered file with the necessary elements.

Now just imagine if some git summoned a Genie or got a bunch of Cyclops or Giants or Dwarves or Egyptians or whatever and Dug out that piece of land at the end of the straight where the Suez canal would be and used big basalt blocks or granite stone slabs to hold back the sand and make the biggest canal the world has ever seen! The 8th wonder of the world in ancient times... The wonders were fluctuating back then anyway...

Yup, it was an idea for an alternate history for a game idea in which Giants, and Dwarves etc were real on our earth etc... Using AD&D

Thank you! Parts of the map will be changed to 3D elements I think, so the final product will look different. But cool nevertheless!

What TV series would this be? Is it a local one, or will it be a larger production?

I don't know.

Oh, I figured you would. So they commission these maps without telling the artist much about the program, I see.

I was commissioned by a visual effects artist, who works on the intro.

It's fun, the Gaul, the Iberic peninsula and the western Europe have almost the same shape than Faerun in forgotten realms.
