Description IMPORTANT
I'm well aware that a lot of people like the Tsundere character type, and that's FINE This stamp isn't saying what you like is wrong. This stamp isn't saying you suck for liking Tsundere. There are plenty of stamps out there that support this character type, so go and fave and comment on them...they will appreciate your patronage. Thank you

Tsundere (ツンデレ?) is a Japanese character development process that describes a person who is initially cold and even hostile towards another person before gradually showing their warm side over time.

*sigh* I had a great long essay here about why i don't like Tsundere characters...but I doubt anyone would read it anyway. So if you support this stamp then that's great...if you don't that's cool too.

I don't support over-exadurated, badly done Tsundere characters....PARTICULARLY the violent, abusive, manipulative, vicious and INSANE ones.

EDIT:

I feel i need to make this point clear because a few people are making some points in the comments that need to be addressed

I do not have a problem with girl characters being violent or giving as good as they get. That's awesome. Shows like Utena, Excel Saga, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, Ranma Half, Dragon Half...even god damn EVANGELION do this right

WELL DEVELOPED tsundere characters can be really good. Characters who start a relationship on a negative and evolve into a positive can be excellently written, without the need to outlandish amounts of 'comedic' violence and bitchyness.

A commenter mentioned Helga from Hey Arnold...THIS IS A GOOD TSUNDERE CHARACTER. Taiga from Toradora is a BAD TSUNDERE CHARACTER. Violence and abuse towards men =/= strong, well developed and emotionally deep character. If your character is just a mean spirited bitch hiding behind 'oh, I can't deal with my emotions towards this guy which explains my extreme violence towards them!', that's a BAD TSUNDERE CHARACTER

I only support tsunderes that are well-developed and aren't a bland cardboard cutout of the overdone badly-written tsundere, and if it's a tsundere who uses violence, he/she does it for a good reason instead of over something so petty.

I have a few tsundere characters in a story I'm writing and am trying to have them stand out from the annoying ones who beat up people just for not bending to their will.

need to be sedated and put in a padded cell... or jail.

I wouldn't even really count Natsuki as a Tsundere.

She's a conflicted little kid with low self esteem lashing out at people who make fun of her for liking cute stuff.  When the player shows interest and understanding in her hobbies she opens up to him almost instantly and doesn't display any of the hysterical, violent tendencies of other Tsunderes.  She's a far more relatable and real character.

only good Tsunderes are the ones that get out of it, is supossed to be a phase of the character, not it's character in it's entirety, that being said i saw more of the latter example in most animes since there aren't many japanese mangaka that know how to write good Tsunderes so i also hate/don't support the archetype, favin this~

I agree!  If it's a trait that's fine but it's boring if the characters never develop or grow out of the trope.

Your feelings are yours to wrestle with

Toradora is quite a popular series amongst anime nerds who can get past the Tsundere nature of the main character.  With a little research you will easily find people who share your interest.

Urgh you are so right.  It's so infuriating because we just know if the roles were reversed the male character would be portrayed as a bully or maniac.  But if they're a cute anime girl then suddenly violence and property damage are ok.

I wouldn't exactly say they're equal to a Mary Sue if they are well-developed. But sadly, most tsunderes are glorified abusers who get away with everything they do because people think abuse against men is hilarious.

IvoryAlmonds [2017-04-23 22:38:32 +0000 UTC]

I support good Tsunderes that have reasons, don't focus on major punching or hurting for nonsensical things (I pass by the ones who either bump them in a shoulder, or give a shove, but not all out bishslaps and demonic "BAAKKAKAAAAAAAAAZ!"), aren't only there to be a tsundere, have good consistent writings, and do get repercussions for their actions

Karma, if you will. Like, as stated in the description, Helga. While she does sort of get away a bit 'unscathed' from her manipulations or teasings to Arnold (Which he lets it get away because it's his nature and morals at play...) she never really gets her way nor rewarded in the most ideal situations. Such as when she manipulated, or tempted to anyways, Arnold's and Lila's chances of like liking each other. She wanted to split them up, but ended bringing them more together with her looking stupid and lonely. Even with just the simplest of schemes, like not being herself, things go wrong. Helga goes through hell and back again just to keep her affections secret, or after she tries to screw up arnold's relation with someone else, which she ends up screwing herself. She 'screws' up herself by being found out, beaten up, ironic turns, getting the back hand, ect, ect. On top of that, she's a nine year old girl who doesn't necessarily know how to carry herself because of her broken home, and dysfunctional lifestyle. She's neglected, her mother is a drunker, her father is a workaholic. She's also the shadow of her older sister Olga. Even with her tough exterior, she shows softness, and feelings she wants to let out, but in fear of rejection and bullying, see her younger form.

She was never loved and was always expecting hurt and unfairness. Therefore she does it back, sometimes unconsciously, because that's how she was dealt, and somehow raised. As it says in her bio, she exerted her feelings towards Arnold after the care and heart he demonstrated with and to her when she was younger and struggling. I can understand her fears and how conflicted they are given her past and present. With those faults, she also has her upbrings, like changing her mind and striving to make it better after seeing how she hurt 'x' so. Helga still has her morals, and even with her tomboyish, and not-afraid-to-pow type of attitude, you don't see her doing it 24/7 or slapping (exaggeratedly.) her male accomplices at that shouting 'BAKAAAAAA!!1!' at the smallest things. Helga has a good side, and even can be on friendly terms with Arnold. Risking it all to at least show that she cares, or to make him happy while trying to maintain her locked up attitudes to avoid ridiculing. She has a line that she wouldn't cross, and would backtrack if necessary.

While I'm not really fond of when she wrongs Arnold, I still think this is much more passable compared to the other, so called tsunderes.

I also love another 'tsundere' like character...

IwashonestlydebatingonaddingAmyRosebutthatwouldprobablytakeforeverspeakingaboutwhatIloveandwhatIdislikeaboutherwrittingapproaches. Besides I'm not sure if she classifies as one because she doesn't chase/bop Sonic because she doesn't know how to love him or is too shy to tell. Amy is all front and bold about her loving Sonic. The only thing that corresponds with her is that she isn't afraid to knock sense, or be tough, on her male accomplices.

What gets me is even if they act cold and flippant that's fine, it's when they act violent that i get cross.  No one calls them out on it, and they don't get alienated by others for being violent.  In fact some people ADMIRE them for it >_<

As a tsundere myself, I disagree with you.
If you read the definition, Tsunderes will show their sweet side if they know a person well enough. They might act mean because of a disorder or a traumatic thing that happened to them when they were younger. And not all Tsunderes are abusive, being mean doesn't automatically abusive.
If anything, Yanderes are way worse then Tsunderes.
(Most)Yanderes pretty much kill everyone that isn't their crush or senpai, tend to force (noncenousal)BDSM or other abusive things on people that aren't their lover/senpai, and are in general a selfish and bratty person.
Also, Helga isn't a good tsundere character. She kept stalking Arnold just because she had a crush on him.

KiniaX3 In reply to glovannas [2017-02-15 21:05:14 +0000 UTC]

I won't agree with you on the yandere topic.
Yandere is based on love sickness and love obsession. The character is usually nice and likable between others but they are crazy about their crush and they can go insane if someone hurt their lover or try to take them away from them.
I understand that you hate the 'killing machines', I don't enjoy them much either. But the blind tsundere b*tches, who only can say 'baka' every sentence they say are bad, too.
And yanderes don't kill people for no reasons(ok, their reasons are usually stupid and always connected with their lover). There is actually a BIG difference between yandere and yangire.(yanderes go insane because of love, yangires because of their mood or no reasons)
Both tsunderes and yanderes can be really enjoyable if they're well written.
I'm telling you this because I'm yandere myself and I support these concept of characters but it's just my opinion, you don't have to agree with this.
