Description
Concept of futuristic katana. it was quickjob. I needed to make it in one session. No time for scabbard.ΒWorked in 3ds max, used vray rendering engine and finished it in photoshop. Model is highpoly.

Wouldn't a futuristic katana just be a lightsaber? Although personally I love the idea of "vibro weapons" over laser ones.

Katanas will break when hitting anything hard, like armor or another sword, they also have no chainsaw. The handle probably does more damage than the blade, which will swing slow with that design.

Hi. there is no hainsaw and I would not be so pesimistic about handle. It depens what material is made of....

The handle looks like it would be painful, very painful. Also it looks like it has a pin (I think it's a pin) partially obscured by the tsuba, which means there would be no way to take it apart or indeed put it together in the first place. The slits in the back make the blade look like a sleeve over a core, and the edge bevel looks quite steep which would mean not as sharp as it could be. It looks like the edge "begins" where the hamon line would be on a traditional katana, but the hamon line is actually a martensite/pearlite boundary, the edge bevel begins much closer to the spine.
Your work is top-tier, but unfortunately I cannot say the same for the blade.

Love the handle, I wish my sword had it, it looks way more comfortable. I can't tell if the blade is double edged or is that supposed to be a mock bevel?

Pretty cool. I makes me think of Gears of Sword for some reason. Hilt is kind of cog like and the top dull part of the blade (don't know what that's called) has those notches that make me think of the chainsaw blades.

yea you are tru but it is hard to replace classic grip by something else. I can not imagine anything else what is better for grip than usual leather.
