It was daytime, but the sheer intensity of the hatred, distrust and fear of the unicorns had turned the sky black. Lightning exploded overhead, briefly outlining the chaos before allowing it all to slip back into darkness.

Lerych grunted as he felt a spell graze past his shoulder, leaving a sharp distracting stinging sensation behind. It felt like he had been running and fighting for weeks, but in actuality it had been less than a day. The tensions, however, had been brewing between the clans for far longer than that - feelings that had been swept aside and hidden as their culture insisted was best. All for naught. It hadn't stopped the onslaught of the war.

Narrowly dodging yet another flung spell, he turned and thrust his forehead as hard as he could towards his assailant, barely noticing the dying squeal of the mare as his horn sunk deep into her chest. Stallions, mares, foals. It was all a blur, and for the life of him he could no longer tell who was friend or foe. Chaos had descended, and clan loyalties had eroded away into an every unicorn for themself mentality.

Pausing, Lerych surveyed the land around him, feeling oddly detached as he saw his kin falling around him. There was nothing left for him here - nothing left for any of them.

Closing his eyes, he cast the transportation spell that would take him far away - to somewhere he could hide from any of his brethren who might hunt him down. As his horn glowed and the spell began to take effect, he cast the final spell he would cast in a long time - the spell that would hide his horn - his most distinguishing feature - and that would make him blend into the crowd.

With a final sweep of lavender eyes over the once-peaceful land, the dark stallion faded away into the darkness, off to seek a new home for himself...
