Alpha swore under his breath as he raced through the carnage, avoiding the screaming locals and the fiery death traps as best he could. He had stopped by the mercenary village to restock supplies, his appearance carefully crafted to help him fit in with the damned locals. All for naught. Flames leapt up around the entirety of the village, ending any hopes he had of making use of their ill-gotten gains for himself.

Flinching and ducking as he felt more than heard the dragon swooping down and letting loose another stream of fire, Alpha cursed and hastily patted at his neck, where he felt a singeing of his dark hair. Realising that there was no point in lingering, and that his best bet would be to return to Juno before the kid worried and came to try and find him, he slung his pack securely around his shoulders, shifted into his wolf form, and raced out of the village - all the while keeping a wary eye on the humongous serpentine dragon that curled through the sky above.

Once a safe distance away, he shifted back to his human form and allowed himself to drop to the blissfully cool ground, panting hard from the mad run he had been forced to make. The screams and angered shouts of the Shadowvalers seemed to have died down as the owners either perished or fled the charred remains of their homes.

Led by a gut feeling, Alpha's sharp gold eyes shifted away from the harsh glare of the burning buildings, up to the surrounding hills and cliffs. It took him a while, but once his eyes adjusted to the darkness, he clearly saw the lone figure atop the hill.

Merida. Standing still and silent, her mane whipping in the wind as she watched her dragon companion in all his fury, calm as anything despite the fires that raged below.

Shaking his head and grumbling about insane inter-species romances, Alpha shifted back to his canine form a final time, setting off in the direction he had left his youngest pack-member.
