Hey Suebell,
Thanks for the comment. I don't get to dA much anymore. Sorry for the year wait. She's a young russian. Spoke almost no english. Her boyfriend Ziggy came along as interpreter. His english was bad TV english. She wanted to be a model very badly. Very classical face. I shot the image with 8x10 polaroid cross processed to the the chocolate effect. Used swings and tilts on the camera to force the plane of focus. Built the set for the shot. Used the big windows in my studio for lighting.

Really, my pleasure. You were so kind as to send a comment. I have two galleries on dA and just haven't even thought about this one. The other is [link] Other polaroid images.
Thanks again for the comment.

Do you happen to know who photographer Julia Margaret Cameron is? This reminds me of her work. She used soft focus and close cropping in many of her portraits.
Here's a [link] to one of her pieces if you're wondering what she did...

Here's one from the distant past. Yes I know JMC's work very well. Had to study her in photo school.I haven't been around dA much lately. Life changes. The photo was taken in studio in 2005. The woman was a young russian who spoke very little english. She wanted to be a model very badly. I shot it on 8x10 polaroid cross processed B&W neg with a Color receiver sheet. It's called chocolate polaroid. Using an 8x10 view camera with swings and tilts and the lens wide open gives the rest of the feel to the image.

This is absolutely stunning and I'm amazed that it has received so little attention. Her expression is just so eye-catching...and I love the emotion. A definite fav.

Thank you so much for both your comment and your reaction to the photo. Julia is a Russian immigrant who, when I shot her, spoke very little english. The shoot was conduced through her boyfriend Ziggy who spoke a little more. When she and I were alone on the set, there was something about this woman who had left Russia for a better life in America that seemed like a latter day telling of a story that had been lived out a century before. It was a great experience for me. A bit like time travel.

I like this very much, the use of sepia? and even the the clothes seem to add to the aged effect...it appears, to me at least, that she has her mind on other things...and is in a sort of dream...

Thanks. It's cross processed 8x10 polaroid. Gets it's color from that. I worked with a stylist to come up with the clothes to get the feeling I wanted. The model is russian and spoke no english. I think it helped.

Probably did help...what is cross processing?

Cross processing is mixing the B&W neg with the color receiver sheet in 8x10 polaroid. It comes separately.
