Description Well, I can see my original Disney-esque style merging with my new Tablet-esque... style... thing

I'm ok with this, I suppose... Happy with his face most

Anyways, what the heck is this? This is some of that Les MisΓ©rables fanart I've been promising/procrastinating on; seriously, I started this almost 4 weeks ago and it kept getting pushed back further and further

[link]
Sooo this here... is after the June Rebellion in France of 1832, where... tragically, all the students that took part in it/lead it... were killed... Just, THBBT dead and gone; it was a bloody mess that did not have to end the way it did... And the movie musical does something interesting with Inspector Javert... CHARACTER GROWTH.
The night before, he was at the mercy of Jean Valjean; as per his beliefs, an ex-convict like Valjean would NEVER change his ways and, when given the chance, would steal and kill without blinking... Javert submitted himself to this belief and waited to be killed... but no! Valjean frees him! But... he's criminal... Valjean forgives Javert even though Javert would NEVER offer any forgiveness to ANYONE!! His whole perception of right and wrong is turned around and he doesn't know what to believe...
This rebellion lead by the urchins of society... the mongrels and traitors whom he would have never looked at twice... were now... kids... Just kids who wanted to be treated as equals with humility and respect. Did they get it? No. They got shot/stabbed with muskets by other soldiers who were just as blind to their duty as Javert was...

Sorry, RAMBLE! But this scene is SO well depicted and... even when Javert kind of walks along seeing this bloody mess, you hear birds tweeting; as though the world could honestly care less... maybe I'm reaing too much into that, but idk

Anywho, please comment and enjoy
note that scene I shared with you guys... yeeeah I'm working on another pic from there... YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHAT IT IS!!
lol

I LOVE THAT IN THE MOVIE THEY DID THIS SCENE
Because I feel like this is the turning point of his character, like they eased Javert into his "maybe everything I've ever known is wrong" existential crisis with this--and when he pins his medal on Gavroche you see it in his face and he's like "this is a literal CHILD. I helped murder a literal CHILD." and you can see the look behind his eyes like "I screwed up"

EXACTLY!

Javert does have a downward spiral and it's emphasized all the more in the movie musical; I'm SO happy they added this moment

I mean, I thought Russell Crowe did well as Javert (contrary to popular belief)
His singing was good enough, I felt... but it was THIS scene that he did best
gosh this one is so old I need to fix all the problems with this

I don't wanna lose my style, soo... while it may seem like a "step backwards", I'm gonna try to Disney-fy these guys again... not "real-ish" looking hair or anything... I'll try 'cause i honestly LOVED my Disney-esque style lol

But thanks a bunch

Kind of a step backward compared to my other people-picture-thingy, but... Disney-esque is my style

I CAN do other styles, but this is more mine

Amazing job on this!
I loved Crowe's portrayal of Javert, he made me feel so many emotions while he was on screen ^^

Thank you very much
Oh, me too!

Granted, when you compare him vocally to Philip Quast or Norm Lewis (love both btw) it's obvious he's not on-par with them, but that doesn't make him a bad singer... it really bugs me when people bash the guy, 'cause... honestly, I think he did very well. His voice isn't booming, loud or angry most of the time because... javert is a VERY confident arrogant, dignified man; he really only gets angry/booming when he's with Valjean because Valjean is like Moby Dick to him; he's the one guy who KEEPS GETTING AWAY

Sorry I had to rant... i just thought he did a good job

It was my pleasure!

No worries. I totally agree with your rant

I think the main reason why people bash Russel Crowe as Javert is because they weren't expecting what his interpretation would be like. Crowe's Javert offers a more somewhat melancholy perspective of the character, while most, as you said, are used to the always angry and loud interpretations of the musical's upbringing. True he isn't up to par with Quast and Lewis's vocals, but for me he sounds pretty alright. What I really loved about Crowe's Javert was his acting, the combination of his acting and his singing is what makes him great for me.

Oh geez I love your allusion to Moby Dick, it is so true! xD

Glad you understand

Yeah, I noticed that too... and his whole "melancholy" interpretation is brought through after Valjean spares him... Confident doesn't always mean loud.
ALSO! It made Javert less of a villain and more human... I always saw him as more of an anti-hero than a villain, personally Like, yeah, he's stubborn, thick-headed, merciless, without empathy, blinded by his duty, and harsh to anyone and everyone while offering no forgiveness... but... that's how law-men were made. And that's what makes it all the more poignant when he has to confront his past misdeeds to others and questions what he so firmly believed (oh yes... i'm gonna be drawing THAT picture as well lol)

Javert IS a lot like Captain Ahab as far as obsessive tracking goes, isn't he??

NOTEBLUE13 In reply to MegBeth [2013-02-26 23:09:38 +0000 UTC]

I saw him as a anti-hero like figure as well. All the man was doing throughout the whole story was his job, a job that caused him harden his soul and to suppress his emotions, for everything he did, he did for the law. The real villains of the story are the Thenardiers.

(oh my gosh, yay! I can't wait to see it!! )

I was thinking of drawing Russell Crowe's Javert for a while, but I don't know which scene to draw though...Any thoughts? xD

Yeah in the book, they were freaking scum of the Earth... so, OF COURSE< Victor Hugo let them live lol
In the movie musical, they're still bad, but... they're also hilarious

lol

(XD

Ummm... any scene where he's not wearing a hat... The first hat he wears looks like he's working in the back of a fast-food kitchecn [link]
and... this...
--> [link]
I know it's the time period and they really wore that but... LOL!
IT LOOKS SO DOOFY!

How 'bout this --> [link]
he looks rather arrogant confident here

I actually liked Javert. Well, in the beginning, not so much, but when he puts the medal on that child's body....ugh, the tears were flowing! I gained so much respect for him after that.

Lol Javert's an anti-hero to me, sooo... I like him and don't like him at the same time...
I do love the character growth they give him; it was very well done

Yeah, that's how I feel about him too. I like him, yet there's a part of him I don't like either.
