I figured it was some form of water catchment system, however, I thought it was an Apollo Service Module.

Yeah, now you mention it, there's a certain resemblance to Apollo. It's unintentional though. Thanks for the comment mate!

What some people may not think is mecha is still mecha if you decide (and show) it to be so. Thanks for submitting this to #MD, Mark; it really adds variety to our idea pool.

I fucken love this.
I'm loving Sketchup more and more these days, it really forces you to focus on actually designing shit and not dicking around with rendering and drawing tricks.
Plus at the end of the day if need be, you can still slap together a presentation with PS, paint over it a bit like what you did here and it'd still look FANTASTIC.

Thanks. I'm not sure yet. I've got an idea or two, but I don't know if they're worthwhile...

Simple and very effective. I love the space module with its engine, upside down.
This is a very original use of Sketchup components !
Well done, mate.
And thanks for your last comment about my Ares picture.

I really like the combination of 2D and 3D elements, looks good all meshed together. My only concern is the windmill. Personally I've never seen a windmill that looks like that, but I haven't seen a great deal of windmills.

Tnx for the comment mate. You're right that the windmill isn't your average of-the-shelf type of mill. It's a makeshift generator made out of an industrial fan.

i like the textures your using, are they all sketchup standard materials or are some of them custom?

Some textures were found on the net and some were already available in SU, but modified (size / color settings & such).

I always love post-apocalyptic scenes, but this in particular has a great style. The desolate feel of the background and the jaunty angles of the constructs give a realistic atmosphere. At the same time, the way sketchup renders images creates a different look to most work done in 3D.

Very good!
If you render this scene with Indigo, Maxwell or Kerkythea will be amazing.
By the way I saw Kerkythea for the first time in your hangar render. Never heard about it. It is friendly? And free?
Cheers.

Tnx for the positive crit and the fave. You can download Kerky for free. IMO it's a pretty a-ok program, once you got the hang of it. The results can be pretty nifty as well (not including my own work yet, since I'm still learning the program...)
