Description
“Oh how I’ve waited for this day. Today, the twentieth day of Creaturing Features, is the day where I get to talk about The True Dragons.”
“True Dragon; [Troo Drag-uhn]”
“True Dragons in short, are the absolute coolest. The living legends of Estea, they watched time march onwards, stepping in when needed. These beasts of myth have played an obscenely huge role in the history and culture of Estea, from before Human presence to the current day. True Dragons are separate from Draconic, as the ladder is newer than the former, and is relatively more humanoid. The long lifespan of True Dragons averages to 2790 years with a rate of maturing at 50, which puts into perspective how utterly great they are. All True Dragons have magic coursing through their veins, sometimes, more than one type, if not all types at different potency. As such, True Dragons take the physical form of their most prevalent magic type, most commonly Ancient Magic. Individuals can have different or unique levels of magic in their bodies, responsible for not only other magic types taking form, but unique combinations of multiple magic types. A True Dragon lives in an area most potent in their magic type; such as a Natura Dragon living deep in forests or an Inferna Wyvern living in a flaming volcano. Ancient Magic types are unique as they live anywhere, simply the individual chooses where to den. True Dragons challenge Kitsunes and Archfey for their wisdom, as True Dragons easiest accessible when compared to others. Their ideals unrivaled by bias, True Dragons make no opinion based on a species, but rather the individual.”
“Dragon; [Drag-uhn]”
“The noble and humble Dragon, the most common and recognized variant of True Dragons. Typical Dragons appear more commonly towards the central regions of Estea as a whole. Dragons have an average height of 120 feet and 7 inches or 36.75 meters, truly massive. A Dragon can easily be identified by its four legs and wings, with its head being rough with a pronounced snout, overall this variant is much broader and larger body than the other True Dragons. Socially, Dragons live in solace, never leaving its den unless necessary. These Dragons are seen as benevolent creatures, only attacking other races when provoked.”
“This specific dragon used above is an Astral Dragon, as it has taken a physical form of Astral Magic as its main magic type. With Astral Dragons having the innate and incredible ability to breathe and maneuver in space, as well as hardened scales to withstand returning to the atmosphere. Moreover, Astral Dragons have incredibly mystical body scales, illuminating and seeming as if they were alive itself. Their signature breath attack, acting opposite to what would be expected, as their breath focuses a gravitational pull inside its maw and pulls would be attackers into it.”
“Wyvern; [Wahy-vern]”
“Wyverns are the most similar to Dragons, however special in their own right. Wyverns appear most commonly in the northern regions of Estea. Wyverns have an average height of 85 feet or 25.91 meters, smaller than most other True Dragons. Wyverns can be identified by their barbed tail and two hind legs, as their front legs are also their wings. Their head is much more pronounced, with a longer, flatter snout. Overall they have a smaller build than most other of their species, but this does little to make them any less powerful, as the Wyvern is much more dexterous and speedy when compared to Dragons. Socially, Wyverns are much more active, living and hunting in small packs, only creating a den when it has accumulated enough for its appetite. Your fun fact of the day is that my Great Great Grandmother is a Wyvern herself, a Terra Wyvern to boot.”
“This Wyvern used above is a Terra Wyvern, taking the form of Terra Magic. Terra Wyverns are incredibly durable, as their main weapon of choice is their body, hammer-like tail or simply smashing their head into their target. Their head, donned with an extravagant helmet, was also the inspiration for knight helmets interestingly enough. Their breath attack has two phases, the first being the initial spew of a sandstorm, easily blinding their foes. Their second phase is the spewing of boulders of various sizes, all hurdled at high speed with the mask of the sand. This brutal breath beats down their opponents easily.”
“Oriental; [Ohr-ee-en-tl]”
“The mystical and elegant Oriental. Commonly found in the eastern regions of Estea, Oriental dragons are a special sight to behold. As their bodies billow through the sky so effortlessly, while remaining so elegant. With said bodies having an average length of 60 feet or 18.29 meters. Orientals can be easily identified by their snake-like body, with six legs throughout it. Their heads are similar to the Dragon’s, with a more rounded snout to stand each other apart. Orientals typically bear no wings, but they can still take flight effortlessly. Having the slimmest build amongst the others, Orientals are renowned for their extreme speed and dexterity. Socially, the Oriental is regarded as the kindest of the True Dragons, living nearby civilizations, acting as their guardian. Orientals are the most likely to host Divine Magic, and act as the Divine themselves. To a greater extent than Archfey.”
“The Oriental pictured above is quite the looker, as it is the rarest Oriental type, an Abyssal Oriental. Regarded as being the rarest True Dragon combination as well, as an Abyssal Oriental bears the form of the demonic Abyssal Magic. An Abyssal Oriental is still a divinity of a different nature, as the designs of hell are the ones to worship them, since the Abyssal Magic inside is incredibly potent to alter the form of an Oriental. Nonetheless, this Oriental is the most dexterous of the True Dragons, and a master of Shadowmancy to boot. These Abyssal Orientals have the innate ability to shape shift and their ability to go invisible at will. Their many eyes can pierce through the strongest illusions. Their breath spews one of the strongest hellfires, randomizing a side effect for the target, be it continuous burns, poison, paralysis, or inflicting a curse. With all this said, the best fact to bring up regarding these rarities, is that they’re appearance is simply for show, as the Oriental is just as kindhearted, playful, and considerate as its others on the surface. It is even recorded that it will simplify its appearance when interacting with children and those easily scared.”
“Hydra; [Hahy-druh]”
“The powerful Hydra, the final variant of True Dragons. They are most commonly found in southern regions of Estea. Hydras have a variable size, averaging to 100 feet or 30.48 meters. Hydras are the easiest to identify, with only two legs, a snake-like lower body, roundest heads, with small snouts. Hydras are most known for their multiple heads, as a Hydra can be born with 2 to 16 heads. With a rare condition known as “Hercules’s Hydra” also an option, in this scenario the heads regrow in twos when cut off. Moreover, The heads of a Hydra have different personalities, segmented apart from the other, as each head bears a key piece to their whole character. Hydra’s are known for their raw power, as their magic incline can either form into all heads having the same magic type, or multiple heads having different types. The former adds more raw offensive power while the ladder adds a rounded offensive power. Whatever the case its, the Hydra’s do not share the same magical traits when taking a magic’s form. Rather, they solely use the magic types as a breath attack. Socially, Hydras are the rudest, actively roaming about to duel anyone worthy. As such, Hydra’s are often feared the most.”
“My Closing remarks regarding these fantastic beasts would be that even though the True Dragons have the power to strike fear into most any race, an important fact to remember is that these creatures are intelligent, more so than most other races, the brutish tales regarding them are either overdramatic, victims of circumstance, or simply told from the winning perspective. As my major field of study is in The Ancients, it's my job to offer a lens into the truth or clear the air of misunderstandings. Even if my heart aches about it, True Dragons as a species is close to being endangered. As their rate of birth is slow, at a maximum of 3 eggs mating season, which occurs centuries apart. True Dragons are an incredible beast, living piece to the birth of Estea itself.”
