Description *I was using an art reference of Rihan Nura holding the katana ("Long sword" in Japanese) that once belonged to a demon exorcist, and it really inspired me to draw a new character for my manga series.  Decided to work on drawing a few other expressions.  I thought that the "Furious" expression would be the most challenging, yet it was the easiest to draw.  The most challenging facial expression was the "Baffled/Confused" expression.  "Skeptical" was medium tricky to draw, and "Relief" was an honest pleasure to draw for this new character design.

Kaizu is the Commander of the Night Parade of 1,000 Demons in a small town in the countryside away from the hustle-and-bustle of Kyoto, Japan.  The rather formidable yet dashing Scoundrel, Kaizu is a rather dangerous Yokai warrior due to the amount of utter authority as well as demonic power over all of the various Yokai clans under his firm command in his vast territory.  Intarayasho knew of the deeds of this keen swordsman of a mighty Yokai warrior (Kaizu) during the era of the Samurai, while he served as Lord Inari's Champion, and defended the vast domain of the 9-tailed Kitsune God of rice, and travelers. As the Commander of the Night Parade of 1,000 Demons, Kaizu heard fantastic tales of just how lethal Intarayasho was with his set of Samurai swords in the heat of battle, and he sent a letter to Intarayasho to serve him.  Intarayasho in turn wrote a letter back to Lord Kaizu that stated in an honest manner: "I politely refused to serve Lord Kaizu while he (Intara) stayed at home to deal with much more serious matters around Lord Inari's vast territory and do battle with the rogue yokai uprisings for gaining more power."

These 2 do not meet until something brings both of them together in modern-day Japan.  Juria's cousin and best friend, Bara Wedgewood had just been dumped by her completely selfish boyfriend in England, and she comes to Kyoto, Japan as if drawn to a rather special someone or something.  Bara does not know that Kaizu discovered her hair scrunchie on the night of her giving that selfish boy-whelp a piece-of-her-mind!  The yokai servants under Kaizu's command wanted to have their revenge upon the insult to Lady Bara whom their Lord and Master really liked a lot, yet Kaizu ordered all of them to keep this teenage boy wide awake all night anytime he tried to fall asleep: causing him to fall fast asleep in ALL of his classes and clubs as well as everyone else was laughing at him!!  Bara decides to go visit Juria during Spring Break in Japan, and that is when this young teenage girl that wears glasses shall meet a rather dangerous Yokai warrior, Kaizu straight out of the ancient Japanese mythology, and legends.  Intarayasha knows that the brand-new pair of Soul Mates cannot ignore the Call to Be Together and Juria is awestruck by this happening to her cousin.  Bara and Kaizu cannot ignore each other for long after they first meet one another after that fateful night, when Kaizu spoke a few simple words, and gently kissed Bara's found hair scrunchie. *

This was really fun to draw from an interesting, foreshortened action pose of a character holding a katana.  Some of the other facial expressions were from my art books or via Goggle Images search.  It might surprise you by how much more interesting your character design comes to life!! *EDIT: I suddenly realized that I forgot to add in the mating marks from Bara on Kaizu's left arm. You will see the updated artwork soon. *

Please let me know what you think of this art study. Have a safe, and Happy New Year 2022!!!
