I always thought she was kind of a pale pink. The outlines here, though...maybe a little too pink. I don't know for sure -- I'm not the expert here, YOU are -- but they just seem a little too deep to me.

Still waiting for this one to get updated. I'm using it as is, but with so many colors the ability to just copy/paste a hex code is quite nice.

This... this doesn't look like her real colors. I am a total pegasister and I, for one, do not think this is her real coloration.

kefkafloyd In reply to moonugget [2012-09-24 23:53:37 +0000 UTC]
Well, there's a long story involved here.
The colors in this guide are in fact "her real colors," as they're shown in Hasbro's official marketing materials. However, these are colors aimed for print and multiple media, aimed to be reproducible. If you buy a toy box, these are the colors used.
They are not the same as her TV colors, which do not print well at all. Her TV mane is far brighter and has colors that are out of gamut in average CMYK gamuts. I've been meaning to do a version 2.0 of this guide (with a Digital and Print guide) but I haven't gotten around to it. For an example of version 2.0 guides, check this one: [link]

I've used sketchbook in the past for doodling (it's also used by the show's storyboard artists!). Their color picker is kinda so-so, but the PNG versions of the color guides can be eyedropped.

Yeah... my problem, however, is that I can't even find an eyedropper tool! :-/ uh oh. Any tips?

It should be in the color palette/toolbox. I know it has one, I just can't remember exactly where.

You won't get in trouble for copying colors.
MoongazePonies supplied her original files to me. If you want something from her, you should ask her, since I can't speak for her.

Where did you get an official (!) vector (!!) artwork?

Hasbro has released a variety of PDF materials, the majority of which has no password protection. They open right up in Illustrator.

A lot of them were from party planners, card invitations, etc. If you can download a PDF from Hasbro.com...

She really is technically white, just not Paint-pure white due to bleeding from her outline.
You should do a show-based colour guide too.

kefkafloyd In reply to ZeldaTheSwordsman [2012-07-14 21:38:12 +0000 UTC]
No, she isn't white on the show, either. She has a very light pink fill. Not as strong as the print one, but it is there.

As far as the creators are concerned, her coat is white. The trace pf pink in it is bleeding from the outline.

kefkafloyd In reply to ZeldaTheSwordsman [2012-07-15 02:52:50 +0000 UTC]
There are pure white ponies in the show; Celestia is not one of them (and neither is Rarity, for that matter). It is not "bleeding," if it was bleeding, you would read white in some areas and the color in others; that is not the case. To consider her "white" is to reduce the visual variety of the show and doing a disservice to the professionals that create the color palettes to begin with.
Read this: [link]
Take an eyedropper, and you will not read white anywhere inside her fill. Ever. In any frame from the show. You'll read a very, very light pinkβI liken it to a pearlescent finish. The 2.0 version of the guide with the show colors will not have 255/255/255 for her coat.

starflyer425 [2012-03-09 02:27:40 +0000 UTC]
the reason i think the toys are so "pinkestia" is because they saw her outline fill, said "oh, shes pink" and got the lightest pink they could find. sadly, not light enough.

If it makes you feel any better, I for one know she is light pink in the show because her body stroke is clearly pink.

Just wanted to say..this guide to Celestia is not the Celestia from the cartoon, but the Celestia from Hasbro's cardboard cutouts and stuff, for the toys.
But still great, nonetheless.

kefkafloyd In reply to Deihjan [2011-08-15 21:31:13 +0000 UTC]
Well, yes, I made that distinction in the description, since this was actually taken from the source artwork used in said cutouts, etc. However, the real differences are in her hair. The rest are within the margin of error.
I was going to make a separate guide for show Celestia's hair, but I don't think her hair colors would reproduce well in traditional media. I will still probably do it at some point!

Lauren Faust herself has said that she is white. Even if there's slightly less green, she is much more white than she is pink. You have no case here.

kefkafloyd In reply to Crisx3 [2011-08-12 02:58:13 +0000 UTC]
Greetings,
You could describe her as "white" in the most vague of terms, but white means a lot of things. The color artists on the show would probably not describe her as white. Rarity is "white" too, except she's not! Same for Sweetie Belle and Scratch. If you call them white, you lose the distinction between them all.
For a toy, the best possible representation of Celestia would be as a pearlescent white - basically a white with a pink glaze. I would still describe it as light pink, because it actually has saturation, even if it is just barely. In the show, she'll never be portrayed as pure white or light gray, because she's not - she has saturation. Just a little bit, but saturation nonetheless. That is the key that separates her from a neutral white.
Have a good one.

I'm going to have to disagree with you. If you were to not look at any of the color values, you would distinguish her as being white. And with colors that is all that really matters, not what is technically right. She is much more white than she is pink, so that I'd call it a slightly darker white. Also, the body strokes are vastly different from the show, I don't know why you decided to go with this outdated version of Celestia.

celestia is a dull white in the show actually, when i did a screencap of the intro i was able to get the color and it really is a slightly dull white, not pink

kefkafloyd In reply to peachsamus [2011-07-22 01:45:05 +0000 UTC]
Did you actually read the values and understand them?
Celestia reads 255, 250, 255 R G B.
See this image with a color picker from a grab from Best Night Ever.
[link]
Or, if you think about it in HSB color model, she is 300, 2, 100. The brightest, barely saturated of pink. If it was just a dull white, then it would be an even number of RGB (e.g. 250, 250, 250 or 252, 252, 252), but it is not.

Yes, but what source were you using? If you use something that has the contrast cranked to max, the tone will have been blown out.
In the intro sequence, see this: [link] Taken directly from Hubworld (and the later iTunes episodes with corrected color read similar values). 249, 244, 250. Celestia is a light pink, end of story, have a nice day.

This Princess Celestia art was sourced from official Hasbro PDFs. It is slightly different from the show in that her hair stroke gradients are a little different and her hair shades are a bit more saturated.

Ah, I see. How'd you find the PDfs? : o And why not go with the show version instead of the pinkie one? It's cute nonetheless though. :3 Just curious.
