Description Okay! Where to start! Well, I've been meaning to draw Michael Emerson for a few years now as I'm a big fan of his work, and that's what initially drew me to Person of Interest. Suffice to say I got hooked on the show right from the pilot episode and my admiration of the duo's relationship developed quite rapidly, until I felt the usual compulsive need to draw them both.

I seldom draw people unless I have some sort of respect for them. I'm not one for big-headed celebrities. So anyway, I read up on Jim Caviezel and only then did I realise he'd played Jesus in Passion of the Christ. Coincidentally, after I'd watched that film years before I'd always wondered who the actor was as he just completely reduced me to tears at the time. Additionally, in real life I discovered that Jim seems like a really lovely man (as is Mr Emerson!) He's been married for many years and he and his wife have adopted two very poorly children. So, yeah . . . if that doesn't inspire you to draw someone, I don't know what does! Ever since then I've been backtracking, going through his films and I'm so pleased I did, as many of Jim's movies among my all time favorites.

Year 2012
Materials: Graphite pencils 2b - 6b, putty eraser, eye-shadow applicator for blending, charcoal.
Time: Roughly two to three weeks to complete. Actual overall time estimated at around 10 - 12 hours. The skyline was the definitely the worst part for me. I'm not used to drawing scenery of any description, so I humbly ask you forgive the quality of that! Again, for some reason I never manage particularly well with clothing, either. Still, I think their likenesses came out alright so that I am pleased with.

Also guys, for anyone who's interested, I've decided to draw the whole cast in pairs in the same, one profile, one facing style with a scenic background. Elias and Scarface are done, and Carter and Fusco, Shaw and Root (and Bear) will follow in the future.

Thanks so much! It is. I just rewatched the whole thing recently and it's still one of my favourite shows of all time. I never did seem to get around to drawing Root, Shaw and Bear, sadly. It's on my very long to-do list!

I started the show because of Michael as well. He offers a level of quality that must be appreciated. If anyone really deserves to be famous it's him.
The show turned out to be quite amazing, though. To a surprising extent, cause i don't really like crime shows. Somehow it didn't cross my mind it will be sci-fi too. Some people seasons 3 and 4 are bad,  but I am in the middle of 4 and as of right now they are my favorite even with though *spoiler* died, which was a loss. the characters have very well developed relationships and are a joy to watch - especially Reese and Finch.
That being said - your work here is perfect in showing the atmosphere of the series. Not only is the style interesting and the portraits good, but also the dark surrounding them, with the light shining behind feels symbolic, and gives depth to the drawing. It looks like the cover of a comic book. I love it Instant fave.

Thank you very much! What a lovely compliment. I've not had my work compared to a comic book before.

Michael's a fantastic actor, undoubtedly, and I wholeheartedly agree with you that the writing and characterization is superb, too. I think I actually prefer and get more involved with the show as it goes on - though I have to admit, I have a bit of catching up to do with it of late!

You are welcome
I'm just happy I watched in now and I'll have to wait less for the next season, compared to people who saw it when it came out. The end of season four was stunning. And even though the episode number was cut in half, and 5 might be the last season, I am pretty sure the creators know what they are doing and they will not disappoint.

Thank youuu!! Ah, me too! I know, it's very odd! It's so well written and the cast is fantastic. It's even less popular here in the UK, sadly.

D'you have a favourite character?

imtherealjenna In reply to GalleyArts [2014-06-27 02:07:42 +0000 UTC]

Finch all the way! You? It is sad that good shows often get cancelled due to the fact they are too high brow for the majority of the dumber population *sigh* They'd rather be watching crap like American Idol (no offense if you like that show!)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GalleyArts In reply to imtherealjenna [2014-06-27 15:46:07 +0000 UTC]

You know, you're the first person who I've asked to say Finch!!! I love you!! I like everybody on the show, I really do, but Finch and Elias are my favourite characters, without a doubt. There's that love of villains again I'm biased with Finch, though, Michael Emerson steals everything he's in. Eloquent and beautiful man that he is.

Oh this is too true! Ugh, don't get me started on reality TV shows. I mean, it's great - in theory , giving folk a hand to get on the ladder in a "difficult" industry, but what gets me is it's always either about the sob story, the popularity contest and, generally speaking, modheaded boybands. It's just a glorified beauty pageant half the time.

Micheal Emerson won my heart with his portrayal of Ben (and yes, I did want to spank him LOL!) Not sure if you saw these or not, they were some of my earlier works: spankingfemfatale.deviantart.c… spankingfemfatale.deviantart.c… It was actually his role as Ben that made me want to watch PoI, I'm really glad I did to Elias is a fun character, and I enjoyed him every time he's been on the screen

If you want, feel free to respond to all of these replies directly in an email to: imtherealjenna@hotmail.com I really enjoy talking with you!

I did see those!!! The second link didn't work for me, but I know the one you meant to show me, as I'd been through your gallery before. I really like those earlier works of yours. He was great as Ben. I haven't seen all of Lost, yet. I've still got some catching up to do. I tend to do a thousand things at once. Like I can't just read one book at a time, but three. I'm the same with TV series. I'm just strange!

Michael's what attracted me to Person of Interest, too. If it weren't for him I don't think I'd have watched it at the time, but I'm so glad that I did.

Aw thank you, and thanks for your email address! I really enjoy talking to you, too. It's always a pleasure to find people who share so many interests!! I actually sent you a message the other day, with a little update on how Brienne and Jaime was going, I hope that you like it. I've done a lot more work since and should hopefully have it finished very shortly!

I'm like that as well with putting WAY more on my plate than I can possibly handle, but if I'm not doing that, I feel like I'm missing something Oh the last two seasons for Ben are my faves! (Season six over all was kind of meh though I'll warn Season five though I really loved!) I haven't checked my email yet, but I will hit you back shortly... so funny we both seemed artistically inspired at the same time I look forward to more conversations with you, you are a joy to talk to

Thank you! Oh yeah, they're certainly a brilliant duo and incredible actors in their own right, too.

Yeah, it's a difficult task, isn't it? I don't know . . . it's hard to muster the enthusiasm to spend so much detail, time and care on someone you're constantly reminding yourself is a thoroughly unpleasant human being.

AngeInk In reply to GalleyArts [2014-03-31 21:34:46 +0000 UTC]

I couldn't agree more! If I see a face I really want to draw, I will purposely avoid learning anything about the person till I've done the portrait, you know, just in case lol

GalleyArts In reply to AngeInk [2014-04-04 11:28:27 +0000 UTC]

Sounds like a logical plan! I really can't help myself, though. I have to find out if my gut instinct is right or if I'm just wasting my time on a horrible person XD It eats away at me, distracting me as I'm drawing lol. Strangely, though, characters from films and literature I can draw without having to think about that, even if I'm aware the actor portraying them isn't a particularly pleasant person. I suppose it's just because I see them as the character, nothing more. Odd, isn't it?

Ahh brilliant! Tis aways nice to chat to a fellow Michael fan! He really is. Have you seen him in The Practice? I swear, his performance as William Hinks is just out of this world. If you haven't, I definitely recommend it. He's by far my favourite villain of all time . . . and I love my villains! I think the most well-known of Michael's drawings is actually his self-portrait, which you can just find on Google easily enough.

Aww, well thank you! We do indeed! I really admire your ability to not only draw faces, but to draw clothes so realistically, too, I have to say lol!
