Description Right from his very first appearance on Person of Interest Elias has been one of (if not my favourite) characters on the show. I've never been someone who was fond of the stereotypical villain, so the way Enrico Colantoni portrays the notorious Elias as a gentle, unassuming, mild-mannered and very likeable middle-aged-man, really appeals to me. That, tied in with his tragic back story, his cunning, intelligence and his complex, friend-or-foe relationship with the main characters remains to be my favourite aspect of the whole series. Additionally, I see his relationship with Scarface as being very similar to Reese and Finch's. It's just the darker side of the same coin. There's a great deal of loyalty and dependency there that I find really quite moving. I chose to change the background from the dark and dingy warehouse because, when I thought of these two, I always considered the way they greeted one another so warmly by the riverside as being the most significant and memorable moment of theirs.

Year: 2014
Materials: Graphite pencils 4h-8b, blending sticks, tissue paper, putty eraser.
Time: I started the outline over a year ago, shortly after I drew Reese and Finch, but I thought I'd buggered up the proportions on Scarface's eyes and lips so I didn't go any further. Something in me wouldn't scrap it, though, and I soldiered on eventually. From there, I'd say somewhere between 12 - 15 hours work.

I also adore Elias <3 He's not the classic villain, he's smart and not entirely after money, rather after power. Besides, he's got a moral code unlike most villains - he appreciates and repays favours, is loyal and values the power of mind more than the power of gun.
Your drawing is absolutely flawless, it captures the nature of Elias and the very conspicuous Anthony

It's really great! I love both your drawings from Person of Interest <3

Thank you so much. I'm pleased you like it.

I honestly couldn't have said it better myself. That's precisely what I admire about him, too. All of those things; his loyalty, his obscure moral code, his intelligence and the fact that he's relatable, at least as far as I'm concerned. He's been wronged his while life, yet managed to make something of himself. I do root for him, I have to admit. He's like Hannibal Lecter in the sense he's charming and courteous, which almost makes you forget he's essentially a gangster and a murderer. I like those contradictions in characters. Makes them more human.

Thanks so much again! I always think a background adds a lot to a picture, even if it does take a little more time and effort.

It's an interesting vision of the characters. I've never considered relationship between Carl Elias and "Scarface" Marconi to be this. I now see that this is because their actions - the ones that describe their precise relationship - only happen off-screen, with only a glimpse of it for the viewers to see. They are, really, very loyal to each other, even though they're on the other side of the moral boundries from John Reese and Harold Finch.

It's also interesting to see how you've portraited Marconi with his iconic permanent smirk. I feel like, if we were to see the events of the show from Elias' perspective, John Reese would appear to be smirking constantly as well, since they see each other so seldom and under rather specific conditions (which usually involve murder).

Overall, it's a great scene, both in the way it's portrayed and the characters (and their nature) it shows. It's a drawing well done as well, with great attention to details.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful, complimentary and interesting comment. To know you've seen so much of what I've tried to portray means a great deal to me. I've never received such a comment before, so it really made my day when I read it. I'm sorry for the belated reply.

I would personally love to see a show from Elias' perspective. I think it would make for a very intriguing watch. I often wonder if, had we had a show based on Elias' life, running parallel to the main storyline, many people would see Reese and Finch in quite a different light?

Many people certainly would. We know why Reese and Finch do what they do; yet, if you were to start to watch the events from Elias' perspective rather than from Reese', you'd probably think different of them. Even though it's a fan's dream, I'd love to see two shows, PoI and Elias', to start simultaniously and go on with their own storylines, intersecting sometimes. That would actually make two fan camps: Eliasites and People of Interest, and the arguments around charasters' nature would be even brighter.

However, I think that right now, we know just enough about Carl Elias and his life. We're certainly not underinformed, as we know his motives and his view of the world, but we're not overinformed either, which leaves us still with room to explore, and I think it's great when you still have things to learn about characters of any art piece.

This is indeed true. Like you, I think it's highly unlikely, but that would be the ideal set up. Still, we can hope. I'd also like to see the two fan camps and their differences in opinions, their perspectives, etc.

I completely agree there. It's wonderful to see him and his partner in crime back this series to help out.

Took you a while to reply, did it not?

I'm glad to see Carl Elias and "Scarface" Marconi again as well, especially in the role they're in.

Either way, keep up the good work.

It did indeed! I am sorry about that. I like to keep messages such as yours to respond to properly when I have the time to, and I've had a lot of responses to catch up on, as well as finishing projects, writing, then my aunty sadly passed away recently. Hence why I'm so hopelessly late!

Me too. I prefer them on side as opposed to being "enemies" of the Reese and Finch. Even if they are still the "anti-heroes".
