Description "Andreth adaneth, the life and love of the Eldar dwells much in memory; and we (if not ye) would rather have a memory that is fair but unfinished than one that goes on to a grievous end. Now he will ever remember thee in the sun of morning, and that last evening by the water of Aeluin in which he saw thy face mirrored with a star caught in thy hair - ever, until the North-wind brings the night of his flame. Yea, and after that, sitting in the House of Mandos in the Halls of Awaiting until the end of Arda."
Ha haaa have you ever been blindsided by feels you hadn't thought about in ages?

Andreth was a human woman who loved Aegnor, an elf. He returned her feelings, but he never pursued it because 1) elves don't get married/have a family when war is going on, and he suspected that crap was about to hit the fan, and 2) it'd probably end horribly. Neither married, and he died in battle not long after. Of course, elves usually chilled awhile in the Halls of Awaiting for and then return to the world, but he apparently never wished to do so. Presumably because she would not be there.

I want more information about them, but, alas, there is none. And it's from the obscure freakin TENTH volume of the History of Middle-Earth so how much fan material do you suppose is out there to get your fix with? NOT A LOT.

This isn't perfect but hotdog what an improvement over the last time I tried to draw them.

Gosh, right? At least those couples got to be together! This pairing just kind of kills me... it never even had the chance to go anywhere.

Agreed! Besides Morwen & Hurin, this is the most tragic of the Tolkien romances. I don't include Neinor and Turin because they were siblings, and I wasn't as affected by them.

Haha yeeeah, I don't count Neinor and Turin in a lot of things. That whole story just... is a bit much for me haha. But yes, there are definitely elements of other couple's stories that get to me, but this one is definitely the worst in my opinion.

I have the tenth volume.... am making my way through it, Yay for obscure Tolkien. Every. Character. Is. *Significant.* Every. Character. Has. Tragic. Backstory. there is just so much information, you need a freakin notebook.....

Once you get past the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales, it's pretty dense reading... I kind of gave up on reading them like normal books, so if you're slogging through, I'm super impressed! They read like freaking history books or something.

Yeah, I have read through the silmarillion twice, but I don't really remember that much of it. I have cherry picked the bits I wanted to read from Unfinished Tales lol! It's difficult to read an essay or a collection of Tolkien's notes on characters and storylines you are less interested in so I do tend to cherry pick, at some point I *will* slog through again and make notes lol

Aw ... these two are one of my most favourite pairing in the Silm ... I just become so emotional knowing their ending. But this is such a beautiful piece of work! I just love and adore it

Frotu In reply to CuthalionSilver79 [2015-05-11 07:45:36 +0000 UTC]

Their story is really tragic, and it's really sad that there is so little in the source material about them! But I'm glad you like the picture, especially if they are your favorite Silm pairing! Thank you very much

Wow, more fan art of them.
It's so sad and beautiful... I do hope in their future lives they have the chance to meet again. (Just like Finrod can go back to his Amarie.)

Frotu In reply to valloria [2015-03-10 18:50:54 +0000 UTC]

Well... I kind of have a soft spot for these two. There is just definitely not enough attention given to them! I hope that they get a chance to meet again, too.. I suppose that is sort of the ending comment in the discussion she has with Finrod, isn't it? The hope for what could be beyond the ending of the world and all that. It'd be nice if they finally had a chance.

This is so beautiful! Best Aegnor-Andreth ever. Such vibrant, beautiful hues, and such emotion, such tenderness and sadness. I really ship them both. Great job!!
thinking of Aegnor sitting in the halls of Mandos till the end of time from heartbreak just gives me shivers of feels...

Frotu In reply to AmarieVanyarin [2015-02-28 02:50:14 +0000 UTC]

Wow, that is quite the complement! I'm really flattered that you think so highly of it. Thank you! It's nice to know that the emotion came across, since that was something that was really important to to me. I'm not always successful with it, but I'm glad I was this time!

It is such a sad story... I wish it didn't end the way it did! Even though we get so little about them in the books, the potential that was there was really heartbreaking.

You're fun. I felt the same way at some point. Before I accepted that any material of that kind that Christopher or Jackson may provide might end up worse than Tauriel's behavior toward Thranduil. So...all in all. I moved on. ... *runs away and cry*

Frotu In reply to 5ilvara [2015-01-18 00:35:49 +0000 UTC]

I appreciate that assessment of my person XD. I kind of feel like I'm really good at putting on the denial blindfold and sort of picking and choosing what things I want to accept. There were a number of things in the Hobbit movies that would have had me throwing an absolute fit back when I fist got into Tolkien stuff, but now I'm mostly like "hm well... not what I would have done, but what an entertaining piece of cinema." Accept what I like and try to ignore the rest!

5ilvara In reply to Frotu [2015-02-13 16:29:09 +0000 UTC]

I am glad and honored that you appreciate that assessment of your person. B)

Yeah, it was entertaining and I am kind of glad that now people will get my references when I make a Hobbit joke-but I can't help but worry that 70% of the new M-E fans and pop culture itself will remember some characters distorted beyond reason by the movies as canon compliant. Okay "some characters" being actually just Thranduil and Legolas. But still.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Frotu In reply to 5ilvara [2015-02-14 19:22:20 +0000 UTC]

That definitely is an issue... I know my friend had to work a bit trying to get her mom and aunt to understand that Thranduil was not a bad character (within the film itself and then especially in the book), so that is a valid concern. But you know, if they are only so interested that they will only consider the films, then it probably doesn't matter too much to them one way or the other. And if there are new fans, they will probably make themselves acquainted with the source material and understand where the differences are.

5ilvara In reply to Frotu [2015-02-17 11:20:37 +0000 UTC]

Okay, I'll hope so. Not as if I could do anything about it anyway. ^^
Also, I wanted to say that Andreth's figure and face are lovely. Besides, I love the colors you have used for her. There aren't enough non-Caucasian Men characters in the northern and western regions of ME.

Frotu In reply to 5ilvara [2015-02-28 02:55:41 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so so much for mentioning that!! I was very specific in choosing to draw her that way... I know her house is described as being a bit more 'swarthy' in appearance, and I kind of jumped on that. So many of the characters are portrayed as fair-skinned that I wanted to be able to utilize this potential opportunity for a little diversity. So thank you for saying something about it. I'm really happy somebody noticed and approved!

Well, knowing the vast amount of LOTR fanfic that's out there, I wouldn't say there isn't something else about these two somewhere.  And here you've done a wonderful justice to them yourself!  That's definitely something.  *grin*

Well I've gone through the available options on ff.net and ao3, so if you know of any other places I should be looking, please tell me! But yes, it's nice to be able to contribute something myself, as well, especially given that my first shot at them was beyond unremarkable haha

Have you tried this one?  www.henneth-annun.net/  They're a little snooty, but there's a lot of Silm. and other more obscure Tolkien works' fanfics over there.  Some are pretty good too.  They also have a search feature for characters - it would give you a start.    Good luck!

Hey, I highly doubt you deserve the title of lowly if you're creating and putting stuff out there. It can be kind of nerve-wracking, and definitely time-consuming. But I certainly appreciated the help because I'm so out of the loop, and I had no idea where a good starting point was!

Frotu In reply to PearlPrincess11 [2014-09-11 23:57:10 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I spend a lot of time fussing over the colors, so it's really nice to hear when people think they turned out! As for the process, I make a paper sketch that I scan. Once I have that, I usually do most of the coloring in SAI, and then I do some fine tuning in Photoshop.
