The first thing that I can actually formalize, to put forth here, for you to read, Hope, is that THIS is far better than that simple sketch I made (LAUGHING!)! Oh, my...
I am completely transfixed, I'm typing, looking up, seeing something new, back to typing, correcting the many errors, as I peek up again. Your signature whorls, spirals, and patterns sandwiched into the tubular outlines are EXACTLY what this robot SHOULD be composed of! The impact of those eyes, those scheme-y eyes, convey much more story, deep in thought, not focused on the real, but on the what-will-be (do you see it?). These are the eyes he should have!
Besides the fanatically perfect eyes, my favorite bits are the "organics" inside of him, growing up between his eyes, and in his forehead, the germination of his scheme-y ideas, they pop open and unfold, wispy, then stronger! I love how his jaw is now something to be reckoned with, set and determined and steely, with those solid vertical striping, no messing about! When you wanted to give him a vintage flavor, you certainly succeeded, not only does he register in with the pulpy heyday of rocket-and-robot sci-fi, he also has an uncanny Steampunky/Clockworky appeal that is just wicked-good!
Beautiful, wondrous work, Hope, you are such a brilliant artist with such a unique style and approach and vision, your magical "embroidered/neonish" playful pattern-work always makes for a lovely dive into the maze, lost and loving it! I am immediately humbled, and immediately inspired.

My biggest concern was that I wouldn't capture that look in his eyes from your original sketch...and Schemer's eyes are crucial to his entire being ! Love what you are saying about the mixture or organic and metallic. It's funny, I'm sure you know Sendak's 'where the wild things are' book, anyway,I always loved the early pages ,where Max's room turns into a forest, so you had the regular furniture in the warm bedroom, integrated with the trees and outdoors...this is a roundabout way of saying I like when these disparate things come together, think that can be really beautiful sometimes !
You know at first I was going to give it a red background, but when I saw the silver marker in my sharpie box,the spark lit and I thought, that's it !
I am seriously ready to do another one (!), but I have to do an original next so I don't get int the habit of counting on you for all my future ideas .Writing you a note now...

heh heh heh, oh, I wouldn't mind at all, after seeing this work, Hope! Inspiration comes from everywhere, but when the resulting Solution is Brilliant, sometimes discussing the "inspiration" is so moot.
The eyes are so perfect. I also like the "pipeline" leading from his nose to his mouth! And those wigglies under his eyes! (See, I told you that I was not finished leaving you Comments!)

Oh, not at all, seeing an array of pipes, jetting off down a long expanse, then angling up to a huge machine, very cool. Neon! Don't get me started on Neon -- I worked as a designer at a custom electric sign company for fourteen years, and saw so much twisty-turny neon! Yes, I see all of that in your work, Hope! Wonderful, my friend!
