It's funny, but I kind of don't know what to call what I do,I mean I don't draw things that look like photos necessarily,but they stop short of being 100% surreal and aren't tidy enough to qualify as graphic design...but maybe we can just say "Noodle-ism"

it happens with me too, i always draw from imagination. even when i try to cover the song on guitar i never ever follow the notes strictly, thats the reason i am not master in any of these traits. but you've got the craft. draw and name it what you like

Frankly, it's an amazing and lovingly executed portrait, Hope, and I do believe that you are showing us his music in the way you constructed this beautiful drawing "...listen to the melody, 'cause my Love is in there, hiding." I think that "marginally weird" is actually the Magic, here, and it's your wonderful ability to First create the "alphabet" that you'll use to communicate with us, and Second tell us exactly what you are feeling about your subject, right then. His shirt and his hat (the ever-present hat!) are the inspired Indicators of the era of Donny's work, an explosion of soul experience and art, a time of conflict, a time of tears and joy. You've drawn his hands not only as in pleading prayer, but also as the classic expression of "wrenching" that soulful voice from deep within. As I've said before, I so love your style, these wonderfully soft "embroideries", these curving, looping "neon tubes," the lovingly regimented patterns, and the technique you use to achieve all of this. A beautiful work.

It's funny, this was truly one I wanted to draw for my own enjoyment,had just been in an obsessive D.H. listening phase and was incredibly inspired to have a go ! Means soooo much that you would say all this, because it wasn't just about making sure it looked liked him ,it was an attempt to capture a bit of who he was ! My impression was that he was an intensely sensitive person, and that was one of the main things I was hoping to convey. I don't know that I could draw anything in a perfect,anatomically correct way at this point: the freewheeling approach is the one for me,my true comfort/fun zone ...but I'm okay with that, means I can be free AND weird,you know (like so much of my fave stuff by other artists) ! As for Donny himself,it's sad knowing how much further along the world is in diagnosing and treating mental illness vs. where we were his lifetime.Such a genius...
