Description                                     What Women Can Do

The fairer sex has achieved a lot in the past hundred years
while living in this land of the supposed free and just
but women, please listen to these words of truth
we must still fight for change,
for this world of ours still is not fair
and you still are not free

As the 20th century rose up like the morning sun
women slowly started to step out on their own
you smoke and drank with men, after cutting the length
of your dresses and hair just to see how
                                    the world would react
but soon the drums of war began to beat, and you left the house
to fight alongside men against a common foe, while raising your
fists up to the sky and chanting  WE CAN DO IT!

When the guns fell silent, and all at once the world seemed well
we pushed you back into the home
where you cooked and cleaned from dawn to dark
and waited on us hand and foot
we bred you to be submissive lovers, and then
                                   perfect wives and mothers
but loved you only as long as you stayed within the home

And all of a sudden, free love and civil rights were all the rage
and women started to leave the home once more
we gave you greater freedom than you'd had before
you could wear less clothing than in decades past
and were free to make yourselves attractive and satisfy
                                      the desires of men
WOMEN DESERVE TO BE FREE! Only if you promise to not
                                    break through the glass

Then equality for all became a given thing
and we pushed you to the margins as we put social change
out of sight and out of mind
you ceased to be human in our eyes, and are seen only as
pretty faces or objects of lust
while we boldly claim to have set you free

So here we are, living in a more just society than
                                     those of ages past
you've fought for change, and managed to damage the glass
and even though you are still not free, the world
has seen what women can do
you've shown that you're strong enough to hold up
                                        half the world
and that beauty goes beyond having a pretty face
                                       or enticing lust
WE ARE BEAUTIFUL, WE ARE STRONG, WE DEMAND TO BE FREE!
and we'll be satisfied with nothing less

YAY! This is the greatest poem ever. Reminds me - for history class I am writing an essay on how the North couldn't have won the civil war without the help of women and African Americans. Also, sorry I've been lazy and haven't responded to your last messages. I'll try to get to that when I have time.

Well it's nice to hear from you again I thought about sending you a note, but i figured that you were probably busy. And I'm glad you liked the poem. Something told me that you'd be the first person to notice it

Yeah! I get out on the 10th, so then I'll have more time. Are you summer break already? Haha of course I'd like the poem.

Oh cool! I went on a school trip to London and Paris in April (when I turned 16).
