That would be so epic! Of course, hoping that a publisher does skip around the library and pick up that book... o.O But still, maybe you could just send it to a publisher? I want to get published too ...

If your writing is good, I'm sure the standard route will work fine

I'd be worried that someone unscrupulous would find it and steal it. But that's just because I'm paranoid.

As an aspiring author, I know the feeling.

But realistically, if you ever want to get published, it's best to do it the traditional way. (unfortunately ) By submitting a few queries to agents, who will send them to publishers. It's a grueling process, I wish it could be as simple and magical as that.

OH BABY.

I leave 'bookmarks' with my art on them, and a URL that leads to my deviantART main page.

I usually put in my journals that if anyone found me through a book let me know

no ones found me yet.
but I wish for it every day at 11:11

im not giving up.
I think you should do it.

;D

...unless maybe someone steals your story

My first thought- how long is your story if it's short enough to just leave in between pages?

Well, there are many ways to get your story recognised. If you want to have it published, you can go to Lulu.com. That's where I put my little book of poetry that I have. While it's there, you can find a way to have it added to Amazon and whatnot for ordering.
If you go to various publishers' websites, they usually have a section on what they are willing to publish or not. The only reason I have yet to try to publish something myself is because every place I try seems overrun by poetry. But ah well.

I enjoy leaving short, random, odd stories in various places for others to read. I usually don't leave more on it than an email adress and instructions to write something themselves to leave it somewhere else as well. Kinda a game. dunno if anyone's tried, but it was fun making it...

I've left my scraps of stories in library books before (on accident) When I go back to retrieve them they're always gone. It makes me wonder.. Did they keep it or throw it out?

uhanekahu [2009-07-28 18:23:39 +0000 UTC]

or you could try sending the story in to a publisher ST. Publishers get hundreds of submissions each day that they're paid to look at, unless your story is written on sheets of real gold they're probably not going to give it much thought. I don't mean to be discouraging, cause I'm sure you have a great shot at getting published, but even if you do follow through with your idea......SEND IT IN.

kitcatbar43 [2009-07-28 14:09:54 +0000 UTC]

That's really sweet

(Just so you know, I work at a library and we check EVERY SINGLE BOOK/TAPE/CD or whatever that comes into the library for bookmarks, pieces of paper, etc. If you left your name on it we would be sure to put a block on your record so the next time you came in we would return it to you, or we'd phone you so you could come pick it up. So, once it's taken out by someone else and returned, if they haven't removed the story, the circulation staff will find it. Just a heads up.)

The thing about library books is that everyone checks them out. Make sure you go to a library that a publisher could go to (they are rather busy) like near their homes.

If it's not fame you want, you should volunteer and learn how to put a new book in the system, and put your own book into the system after you've bound it and everything.

Fascinating plan, ST... Of course, that'd better be a copy of the original, or I'd be too worried about losing it. XD;

Also, what if someone finds it and decides to use it for themselves? o__o

ST, you might want to check out agentquery.com
It can help you find an agent who will get your stories out to publishers. Just make sure you know how to write a query letter first, and follow the agents' instructions!
Best of luck.<3
