Description Ah, Mass Effect 3.

How do I love thee, let me count the ways...

Ok, there’s too much I love about BioWare’s space opera to put this down and still have room to talk about this little sketch I’ve done here. To sum up; I’ve not seen a universe with this much thought put into it since FASA put out the whole Renegade Legion games. They both have awesome aliens, well thought out FTL mechanics, and some of the most kick ass gun concepts out there. I could go on about how RL’s tech was based on gravity manipulation, where MA unsurprisingly manipulates mass. Anyway, this type of crapola really tickles my mind. The codex entries in the Mass Effect series were written for me.

Painter IX.5 Mostly monochromatic with some highlight colors tossed in. The bare beginnings of a primary triad, but not enough to count as such in my book. Used a little of the paper textures for the armor and a bit of the molded plastic in the pistol here. Other than that, was just shooting for a nice little vignette. The rim lighting and my primary light source fight a bit here. As do the specular lighting on the under suit. I still like how it came out.

Any way yes, Mass Effect is quite the fun space opera... I still need to buy the third...
I really like your art style Ed, you need to draw more... no more life for you!

And thanks!

I just come here to look at the hands. I still have trouble with drawing them holding guns. Thanks for the cribsheet.

My pleasure.
I was thinking of you when I added Lena-Lara's Lara Croft close-up to my fav's. That gal has pistol holding down.

Also, I think there's a poetry to it... letting the fingers rhyme, counter imagery from the thumb? I still feel like I've got a ways to go with gun holding hands.

Heh. As simple as her right hand is, that took much more time than her gun hand. So I guess... practice? Buy a Nerf gun? Draw too many chicks with guns? Wait.... that's not possible.

In reality though, looking at your stuff you've been putting out recently. Soon it'll be me coming to check out how you did your hands.

I saw that photo by chance when I looked at your userpage.

Hands are so daunting, especially for newbies. There are so many points of articulation in such a small area that it's a structure which begs to be stylistically simplified. For example, I find myself joining the two middle fingers or the pinkie and ring fingers, with no "seam" in between, because it helps me position the others. It's actually pretty embarrassing because I know there's so much more possible.

Anyway, what I enjoy about this picture and, indeed, most of your gun girls is that they're never choking the grip. Rather, the gun is more often simply resting in a very delicate hold.
