Description Ah, another watercolor.
I'm sure it's just me. But I seem to be improving. There are things going on here that I'm very happy with. Simple things, but successful things all the same. Touched up in Photo shop a bit more than what I usually do. I think I was on a roll. Something about enjoying what you’re doing, and wanting to keep on doing it. The prelim for this was done on a nice block of Arches watercolor paper. So of course, the final gets done in my ratty sketchbook. I’m stoked about the color scheme. Time to start a series, eh?

There's something ironic about you doing the final version in a sketchbook. It looks great, anyway.

I'm beginning to envy your articulation of hands and fingers, particularly the hands that hold the guns.

In another picture, you said that you had someone model the pose. I've been meaning to ask if you do that for all of them or just on occasion?

It usually happens that I won't have reference for a specific pose. But that tends to be a quick way to find myself in a mess. I do have a large reference file, and I draw from it often. *Ahem, both ways. This specific pose came from a workshop that the Academy of Art in San Francisco puts on twice a year. I had to change some things, but the hands came from that reference.
I've got to be careful with hands. They are my best actors, and what I do with them makes or breaks a pose. That being said, I've also got to be careful with using hands from my reference file. My generous friends have ugly fingers.
As far as the 'final' in the sketchbook. Yeah, I'm pissed at myself. That Arches paper isn't cheep.
