Description I've been planning to do something like this for a while now but kept putting it off until I got better at Photoshop. But I guess its good because I saved this idea for the Terraspace Competition.

Although the main goal of the contest is realism, I decided to put some more meaning into it rather than it just being a pretty picture. In order to capture the beauty of nature from the deepest ocean to the stars above, I made it so both the top and bottom areas share similar features such as colour and detail.
For example, stars can be found in the shallows aswell as the sky.
Both the top and bottom were given cool calming blue colours to give a relaxing effect while the centre is made bright orange which draws the eye away from one area and leads it to the next. While the island serves as a terminal between two different, yet similar worlds.

This has taken far longer to create anything else in my gallery. Some credit for stock photos go to Mayang and Image*After. Created using Terragen and Photoshop.

I think I might have seen a poster that contained something similar to this. I think I remember seeing it in a doctors office when I was very little. I don't know what kind of doctor it was. On the bottom it had dolphins swimming in the ocean. One of those dolphins was jumping into the top of the poster which was mostly spacey things like stars and galaxies. I don't know what it was called but I remember seeing it very briefly as I was walking by.

I think I know what you're talking about. Years ago there was an artist who did sorta similar work to this (one of my early inspirations actually, though I forget the name) that featured beach and space scenery together (often with underwater segments too) dolphins were a popular addition to them, though I preferred the ones without (dolphins just seemed to make it look a little girly for my tastes, as if the pink skies didn't already ) I think they were airbrushed the traditional way.

Nice job on the fish, they look alien. I love the planet in the sky. There are so many details I could stare at it for a while; it's wonderful. Book me a trip to this world! Thanks for sharing.

Glad you liked it But I generally don't allow people to use my work for their website designs. Sometimes I do it for pay but even then I try and see if I can get them to commission a new one just for that purpose so I can keep most of mine personal if I can

You were going for realism here?
Well, that's about as real as it gets!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to FallingDark [2009-12-26 13:49:10 +0000 UTC]

I was surprised how real this came out, especially considering it's a pretty old work, but it was assisted with some photo-manipulation too, mor ethan I usually include actually, but it really brought it out in this case

i'm in awe

Thankyou, even now I only have maybe a dozen deviations that took longer to do than this. But I'll also admit a lot of it was very experimental too. But yes, very time-consuming

haha, there are so many works in your gallery, I haven't even seen all of them yet. This is really nice considering it's already two years old. I like the composition and details.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to ErikShoemaker [2009-04-29 12:50:30 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes I feel as if I make too much...Each rarely has longer than a week in the spotlight before a new one pushes it aside. It's because I have too little to do lol, maybe I should trick people into thinking I'm cooler and more talented than I really am by doing what most of the good artists do - go ages withour producing anything

Anyway, thanks for commenting. It may not live up to my best these days, but I definetily went way over my standard at the time I made it
