Description The fifth in a series of similar-themed landscapes that I so far have submitted on every birthday since joining dA without fail and sticking to the theme of a gradually changing day to night from one to the next each year, well I guess this is the first instance where I'll have to repeat the pattern, starting with a sunrise theme all over again (well, some would interpret it as sunset, but it was intended to be rising ) it makes me feel older in some ways, but I guess the fact that after each day there's another is somewhat optimistic, and I always want these ones to have a nice mood about them

Similar methods applied to the others (except the first when I had no 3D) I made the landscape in Vue and the space area in Photoshop...The Vue landscape got more painting over than usual, especially on the sea to get "proper" waves. I'd say it took around 20 hours or so - my standard time for any fully-fledged print-worthy work

And here's past versions for those wnating more

Great work! I would really like to get this as a print, what is in your opinion the best size and printed on which medium?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to barneybubbles [2014-08-16 14:17:58 +0000 UTC]

It's hard to say, not having bought my own work off dA before Though here I'd probably go a canvas print simply because it creates the least amount of border compared to the others which have lots of border around it (something that was kinda beyond my control) but of course, canvas prints will slightly blur the picture making it look more like a traditional painting. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but if you want something modern and photographic looking it might be better to go photo print and if you're brave enough - trim the excessive borders off and find a frame to fit

I am honestly unsure as to why I have not commented on this before, considering this is probably my most favorite artwork from you (it inspired me to write one of my favorite projects, also).
Anyway, I must say that this is absolutely extravagant, and it literally left me speechless the first moment I looked at it. I remembered once feeling so immersed in observing the art that it felt like I was actually there. I do wish a place like this could exist in such natural and spatial beauty.
In all honesty, though, this is very realistic for a view of a tropical beach on an alien planet, unless the clouds are nebular gas and dust. Nevertheless, this is (in conclusion) incredible.

I'm glad it left a big impression on you, especially since this one seemed pretty much standard for me at the time Yeah the clouds are nebula inspired but I kinda went halfway between that and real clouds since the ones in this series are more about artistic beauty than scientific accuracy anyway

ShadowDrakkon In reply to Chromattix [2014-05-07 04:40:32 +0000 UTC]

I can understand how you would see it as standard, considering it is like the others in its series (along with the fact they are all supposed to be similar, as you said).
You certainly made the clouds look unique in that sense, and their various colors, along with how it was painted, remind me of Renaissance paintings of Heaven, in my opinion.

Yes a lot of people seem to like this one the most. I think it's because it has a more intense difference between light and dark.

What palm trees have you used in this one dude? They're very pretty looking

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to papamook [2013-01-14 13:25:07 +0000 UTC]

I used a custom one here I made in the plant editor, with my own leaf-maps Mainly because the default Vue palm trees are very obvious and I have come to learn how to spot them from a mile away They really need to add some HD palms like they did with the broadleaf trees a couple of years back. Apparently the default palms are like - from Vue 3 or 4

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

papamook In reply to Chromattix [2013-01-15 01:54:11 +0000 UTC]

Yep, I always get disappointed when I install a new Vue and I see the same plants and trees from Vue5 (the first Vue I used) but the palms are of particular irritation to me as they're unusable up close (even at a medium distance they're a little dodgy looking!) even the bark looks ridiculous. Maybe it is just because we are in Queensland and surrounded by palms that we notice their inaccuracies more? Anyhoo, great work creating your own there.

This is so magical! I love your use of colour
Although, may I also point out that the white border on the print looks really odd on the framed prints...
Nonetheless the artwork is still AMAZING

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to Yobtaf [2012-10-21 02:13:36 +0000 UTC]

I changed it to black Normally I consider this stuff upon submission. But I must have forgotten with this one

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Yobtaf In reply to Chromattix [2012-10-21 02:20:13 +0000 UTC]

Hmm...sorry if this is annoying, but if it is black then the normal fine-art print (unframed) looks a little odd then...Idk, I think the only way not to add the weird borders is to crop the height or to crop the length to a 1.5:1 ratio. That's why I hate dA prints so much...there are such awesome artworks like this, but the prints don't accommodate them

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to Yobtaf [2012-10-21 02:24:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, there are somethings that are beyond my control. Maybe buying one unframed, trimming the edges off and then finding a frame that fits could work

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Yobtaf In reply to Chromattix [2012-10-21 02:29:13 +0000 UTC]

I guess so...but the black at the edges doesn't look all that odd anyway, much less so than the framed with white borders
