Description An engagement during the Chinese Civil War, in which the Nationalist Kuomintang forces (foreground) are being attacked by the Communist People's Liberation Army (who also liberated some Japanese tanks which they actually got from the Russians in Manchuria but whatever). Oh, and it's sometime between 1946 and 1949.

You can see a chinese movie about the chinese civil war : Assembly (2007) where you can see the melting pot of weapons used by both sides.

The Nationalist Army looks so disorganized, (looking at the different helmets used)

Yes, they used a hodgepodge of military equipment; China being rather poor after the war, there were lots of shortages. So they used old copies of British helmets (from before WW2), imported German ones (from early WW2), American ones  (supplied during late WW2 by the US army), French ones (some imported before WW2, others taken from Russians), and Japanese ones (captured during the war, or taken from depots after the Japanese surrender).
Their weapons were even more diverse! It would've been a nightmare to supply the frontline units with fitting ammo.

I can imagine the headache of the supply officer when the mix was so bad that individual soldiers used different rifles in the same squad
