Brittany shifted in the saddle, trying to get herself comfortable while she waited. One of her equestrian friends from when Brittany was 12 had come out to help and support her.
Brittany watched one of the Flying Spirit Stable horses go over the first couple jumps and then disappear along the rest of the course.
"They we're so good! Already!" Brittany sighed.
"Don't worry! You don't know if they don't knock a pole." Her friend reasurred.
"I don't need to seem them jump to know they'll have a perfect course." Brittany rolled her eyes. After a few more minutes then horse and rider reappeared, jumping their last jump and slowing down so they could exit. The crowd clapped and cheered with approval.
"Next up is Brittany Hanson and her horse Rockafeller Skank!" The announcer boomed.
Brittany quickly put her feet in the stirrup and prepared to go. Her friend patted Rocky on the shoulder and looked up at Brittany.
"You'll do great!" She said to her before backing up.
Brittany smiled and clucked the Rockafeller, leading her up to the start. She adjusted her reins and waited patiently. The starting bell rang out and in a split second Rocky was off. They had a shaky start, barely missing a jump by an inch. Brittany also had trouble getting into two-point and landing correctly at first, she was letting her nerves get the best of her!
Finally, Britt pulled herself together and soon she could feel Rockafeller giving her the wings she lacked. She smiled and whispered a "good girl" to Rocky.
They soared over the last jump, the crowd going silent as they held their own breath, and soon they ended the course. It felt liked it only lasted a few seconds. Brittany kicked her feet out of the stirrups and let them dangle as she took in the cheering and clapping of the crowd.
bRITT dismounted and walked off to untack Rocky and give her a nice bath. She deserved it.
