Well, the tune you linked to certainly is pretty epic. I'm not really familiar with any of their other work.
Thank you very much. It's always nice when someone appreciates all your hard work. ^_^
If you don't mind me asking, how did you end up coming across this particular picture? Are you an Unhallowed Metropolis fan, or are you simply a Vernian Process fan who got curious about the subject matter of that particular song?

Ironically, I've never actually had a chance to play Unhallowed Metropolis, I just really like the setting.

I'm afraid that I havn't read it. I don't really read much modern science fiction and fantasy.( assuming that Boneshaker is modern and science fiction or fantasy? )

That's ok. It's one of my favourites too. I realise it's comparativly old now, but that doesn't always matter as much as you'd think.
Some pictures turn out better than others, they just do. Wether it's because you've got a great idea or just all the little bits seem to go right, but skill or by luck. I look back at my older pictures, and some still do really stand out. Presumably it's like the equivilent of rolling a 20 on your "craft:cartoonist" sill check? ( Sorry, Dungeons and Dragons reference. ^_^ ) They may not show anywhere near the level of skill I have now ( that level it'self is debatable, but I'd like to think it's generally agreed to be going up ) but they are still, in my opinion, good pictures.
Still, I'm really glad you apaprently like this. ^_^
Little details are becoming sort of my signiature artistic trademark. They're certainly the aspect of drawing I find myself most suited to. I guess I just have an eye for all the little details, and making sure they are all just right? ( Or just how I want them to be anyway. "Right" is a fairly subjective term. )
Well yes, I can understand that not everyone would like it. A mass of lines is very hard for most people to quickly process and take in, and it probably just looks like a great big mess to some people, at least at first glance?
I really am going for that vintage look. Old victorian woodcut illustrations are probably my biggest inspiration, and the artform I find most encompasing of traits I appreciate in art, so I hope it's understandable that it is a style I might well wish to emulate?
Regardless of how other people may see it, you are right, it is a very appropriate style for me. It deffinatly draws on everything I like in art, all the little scratchy lines are to me, more beuatiful than the finest oil paintings the artistic greats of history have to offer.
And isn't that what art is really all about, doing what you want to do?

Haha, make all the DnD references you like, I'm a giant DnD nerd. That's true, though. Sometimes you just draw something that's beyond your average skill level, and don't manage to draw something comparable for a long time, even years. I can think of at least one image I did like that way back around 2005, and I still like it even now:[link] Probably the pencil sketch more than the final coloured version, but even so.
I think we're at opposite ends of the spectrum on the whole detail thing, I much prefer implied work where if you look really hard there's actually not too much fine detail there at all. As I said in another comment, I think I'm too impatient to whittle away at little things.
My initial urge is to flatten down areas, and then build them up again if you know what I mean. Too many details like this send my brain in to a bit of a fritz, I'd rather have pockets of detail to latch on to and move between. As it is, it's a bit of an information overload. But again, I'm almost certain that's personal preference. (And again, the impatience...)
You've definitely got a good vintage look going, Victorian woodcuts are one of the things it very strongly reminded me of. All those fine illustrations in old books are lovely, and certainly very detail heavy. I can definitely understand leaning in that direction if that's what really grabs you. It's your artwork, you should definitely just create the things that you want to in the way that you want to (while keeping an open mind, of course) - that's my opinion on most artforms really. As an example, my comic is pretty much going to just be full of things I think are awesome, because it's my comic, and no one else really gets a say. Script writing is brilliant fun. Look out for an airship crashing in to a clocktower at some point.

Thankyou. I'm glad you apparently like it. ^_^
The similarity is hardly a coincidence. Early wood cut illustrations are a very important inspiration to me, and something which I strive to emulate.
Ironically, everything here is very precise and neat. It may appear sketchy to you, but a great deal of care and patience goes into getting everything precise and just right.

Yes, I can definitely see the precision. Strangely enough, I think you somehow combined those two contradicting things--neatness and sketchiness. It's a great combo! 8)

It's steampunk, but it's a very unusual form of it. The premise behing Unhallowed Matropolis, is that it's technically science fiction, but it's effectivly steampunk in the future, as opposed to cyberpunk, ie. it takes Steampunk elements, and advances them into science fiction, yet still keeps the overall steampunk feel very well.
Incidentally, Cyberpunk focuses primarily on it's computers, robotics and cyberwere aspects, all of which are noticably absent from Unhallowed Matropolis.
And thankyou. This one is reasonably old now, but I still think it's one of my best works ever, even now.
