I can see marks that look like it was done with a prismacolor marker..... What's up with that?

BrendanKeeley In reply to ichigo-pocky [2006-05-26 16:22:58 +0000 UTC]
I don't know? The whole thing was done with acrylic paint. I don't even have any prismacolor markers.

I'm curious as to how you did the background (i.e. behind the lighter colors) it almost looks as though it was done on a computer. I know that acrylic paint doesn't make that sort of effect when dried. Did you possibly put in a background with layers on photoshop?

Yeah, the background is done digitally, although I use Photo Impact 8, because I don't like photo shop.

if this was done in a more detailed and realistic manner...
i would go with their coments
and fyi. the devil rather choose a very handsome face rather than ugliness
thus the title The Great Deciever

First off, not everything has to be realistic to be a good picture. Cartoons are art too, and simplicity has a certain beauty unto itself. While you are entitled to your own personal opinion, everyone else really likes this.
Second, who said this was a picture of the devil. This is a picture of an origional character, and is certainly not a depiction of satan/the devil. While I have no objections against satan, and have drawn cartoons of him before, this is certainly not a picture of the devil.

1. you put CRITIQUE WELCOME on the type of Devious thoughts ALLOWED... and read the lowermost portion of my comments...
2.dude you said you are the closest thing to the devil then another person(having an avatar with the silouette of the devil) told you that he is the Devil...
i read the other deviants coments and their extra sentances (sometimes)
add "darkness is my ally" below the "pain and sorrow" part

BrendanKeeley In reply to Joan-Kagami [2006-05-26 10:31:37 +0000 UTC]
I was under the impression that critique ment to suggest alternatives and alterations which may improve upon a picture, not simply saying it sucks.
I know I said I am the closest thing to the devil, but that still does not mean this is a picture of him.
And yes, "darkness is my ally" sounds kind of cool. Perhaps I will add that to my signiture...

i didn't say it sucks... it's great.. only i would say that with them if it is (...)
i am not refering to the picture... i'm telling facts of what he is
it is cool... i got it from my friend's log book(a notebook where only members are allowed to look into and write on)

Oh... I thought you were saying it sucks.
"If this was done in a more detailed and realistic manner i would go with their coments" Is a little open to interpretation. Did you intend "I would go with their comments" to be a seperate sentence?
As for the devil, I thought you were refering to my picture. I didn't realise you ment that other guys avatar. Yes, that's not my idea of what the devil looks like either, I always figured he would look just like an angel, since he is one.
Of course, since he isn't real, what he looks like is open to personal imagination.

As for scanning this "Huge Painting", it was only draw and painted on A3 paper, so it's not really a problem. If you don't have an A3 sized scanner, then take it down to your local office suppliers and get them to colour photocopy it for you onto A4 paper, and then scan it.

Thanks. ^_^
Interestingly, I only actually used four colours. There are some colours suck as green, that I just don't like and don't use them very often. I find that a restricted pallet really makes an effective colour scheme. I know this is not standard artisitic practice ( I was tought in art college that ti is the done thing to use a bit of every colour in a pitcure ) but I find it's just the way of painting that appeals most to me.
And yes, I'm proud of those candles. Especially the one with the faces in it. ^_^

Thankyou for your comment Toten, I always value your opinion. ^_^
I don't know why, but I've always concentrated more on the funny cartoon side of things, rather than actually artistic pieces. I'm slowly trying to change that though, and I certainly will be planning to do more stuff like this.
As for developing painting, I can say that I have probably mastered painting. Yes, this is good, but it's just my usual method of painting. It's the lineart that is great.
Seeing the responce this has gotten so far, I'll definatly be doing more stuff like this in the near future. You will have to wait a while for mysterious future comic though... probably a long, long while.... but there will be pleanty more concept art pictures like this to tide you over.
