Lovely detailing. What happened to "I don't like drawing Asian style"?

Thankyou. ^_^
As for this particular picture, it was really an experiment in detail work, and incorperating alyers of pattern into a picture. A kimono was just a logical sourse of inspiration really, you must admit even the best victorian dress would look silly with contrasting layers of different patterns on it.
And, despite ones personal preferences, one has to maintain a varied protfolio.
That said, while I don't overly like anime-wannabe-asianesq ( either drawing it, or looking at it ) I do rather like drawing kimonos, ( the nice pattened ones anyway ) so you may see a few of them from time to time.

It is worth showing here! You always do such excellent jobs with your artwork! The clothing and her parasol are amazing! :'D I especially love the unique texture you add to your work. The strokes always make it different from the rest, which I like very much!

Well that's good to know. ^_^
I don't know about excellent, but I suppose I am fairly consistant as artists go...
Thankyou. I was really putting a lot of thought and effort into all that pattern work. It was sort of an excersise in just how much detail I could get away with. ^_^
Yes, unique. I get that a lot. ^_^ But you're right, there probably isn't much out there that's like this. It's got a whole different feel to it...

Thanyou. I'm glad you like it. ^_^
Yes, it's a faily staple expression of my style really. I like that high and aloof look for some reason, and I certainly never just resort of plain and simply smiling if it can be avoided.

If you don't mind me asking what is it about it that you like? While we're on the subject, what is it about it that you don't like?

i like it because i think that you captured her orientel-ness quite well and the intricate design on her kimono and the folds in it are very accurate also, there isnt anything about it that i DONT like, but it is deffinately a bit less detailed than some of your more recent stuff

For me, this was really an experiment in the level of detail and intricate design that I could get into the clothes, without it just looking a mess of indistinguishable lines. I'd like to think I suceeded here. I learnt a lot from it, which is what matters. That the end result isn't to bad is just a pelasent bonus.
as for being less detailed, I'm a little confused, or at least, in need of clarification. While the picture isn't as crowded as say [link] , the level of detail in the figure is probably about the same, maybe even a little more. There's less overall content in the picture, but what there is, has the same amount of detail in it.

A little specification never hurts. ^_^
There is actually a fair bit of shading on this, it's just not so obvious because the patterns are in darker pencil and go over many of the shading lines, partially obscuring them.
Still, it's a very good look at how such techniques will actually be percieved by others. Often I find it's hard to really "see" ones own work, because you have such a knowledge of every line that you can often loose site of the big picture.
And I think you'll find it's a paper lantern, not a bird cage. At least it's supposed to be... ^_^

That can actually be quite a problem for digital colouring. One of the reasons why my earlier digital pictures look so off, is because i had my moniter set too dark, so how I always got quiet a shock to see the pictures printed out because they looked nothing like what they did on the screen.
Well my pictures don't necasarily have to make sense. A bird cage is no more unusual, nor unexplainable, than why these people [link] seem to have a lamp post in their house...

Sadly I have much the same problem. Apparently you just have to choose one way or the other and be damned. I sympathise heavily though, and suffer in kind...
I guess I'm getting something of a reputation as a surrealist then?

Aww... thankyou. I'm so glad you like it. ^_^
I put some real thought and effort into those folds, so it's nice to know it was worth the effort.
The bit I was impressed with though, is how well the patterns on it turned out. Not great, but this is porbably my first real attempt at anything along these lines of sheer complicated pattern work, and for a first attempt I'm really rather proud of it. ^_^
And thankyou for the +fav! I really appreciate it, and value your support. ^_^

Yes, they are nice, but I prefer the swirly cloud shapes myself. They were a lot of fun to draw. ^_^
