What does it mean to carve something in the round?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bonecarverpm In reply to Temperance-Demure [2010-02-15 19:43:33 +0000 UTC]

3 dimensionally, its not a relief carving ie flat . it like a fully carved 3d (in the round) life like human statue, in this case a rose

its about 5 or 6 inches long in total, maybe 3/4ths inches wide max of 7/8ths inches

in the picture of the Horn of Trimaris you can see it laying next to the horn if you look closely

The way you carved the vines, and the rose at the top.

It reminded me of the rose in the story.

To me it symbolizes the castle the prince was trapped in, as the Beast, with a magical rose.

:/

It's fitting that it's for powder shooting. xD Gaston tried to shoot and kill the Beast.

lol

Childhood memories...

Lovely! I have carved antler with a dremel so I know how difficult it is!

with bits by Grobet the antler is very easy to carve and they come 6 to a pack for less then half the cost of dremel bits.also if you do any jewelry or other carving try upgrading to a Foredom flex shaft, its a tool all serious jewelers must have, its wonderful and is what ive used for the past 10 years with the same one

What an amazing contrast to its function. Beauty meets bang! Wonderful again, guy.

I try to make each functional piece with its own beauty. so much of our stuff is just functional with no beauty or elegance of design. I guess if it was we might take better care of the objects we own.

Good for you! I hate people who "collect" art and then hide it away in the dark so it doesn't fade, or lock it up behind glass doors so there's no touching. I leave mine out for the wrold and me to admire. I can appreciate an artisan who adds beauty to the things we use every day.
