I did. And it ended with a mother-daughter wine tasting at a local winery and a take-home gift of a sweet red... Chocolate Zom-Bee wine. π

someone once told me there is a price for everything. who knew they were talking about this sort of thing? it is interesting, though, that myΒ grandparents never complained about hips and/or knees. granny used to walk downtown, shop and return and never think a thing about it...in her 80's. grampa and I walked there often, too, in his 90's. now most people have trouble, some quite early on. are we all wimps, or is there an underlying cause? easy to blame weight, but mine is not excessive and I still have trouble at times even in the knee that was never injured.

I know! I saw that and considered signing up. Then figured the number one rule of writing for any author is to just do it their own way, and keep doing it until you've got it sounding the way it does in your head. Neil would approve, I think. Love that guy! Thanks.

Actually, it was my daughter who set up my account pretending to be me. She was trying to prove to me I should finish my first novel because deviants here were reading it and liking it. I didn't start taking over the account for at least a week... so our mothers went to different schools together. We're practically twins.

I'm confused. I didn't write a story "Whisper". Sorry must be someone else's Denny Lou.
Thanks for telling me you'll be gone a while. That is incredibly thoughtful. Take care of those things that demand you. I'll be here when you get back.
Blessings will definitely be needed. The toughest parts of Jim's story have begun.

AlicesPlace In reply to denlm [2019-02-24 09:02:11 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, my bad, I meant "are you listening". It's cos I imagine Jim whispering from the other side, you see.. .
I didn't want you to think I lost interest that's all, cos I shall take about a week and then come and catch up what I missed. I don't want to "seem" like I went off the boil.
Good luck with the next parts of the story, altho I'm sure none of it has been easy to write. Bitter sweet, you must have cried while you shared, smiled and grieved again.
The effort is much appreciated.

Ah, my really name? It is Denise Louise Meyer... Den L M: Denlm. Jim was the only person who called me Denny Lou consistently. It was not a name I liked, much. It came about through an event at the high school where I taught and Jim attended. The staff had hired a hypnotist to help raise funds for something, I don't recall what. I was one of a handful of teachers they asked to participate. There were probably twenty of us--students, admins and teachers--sitting on stage, and after the hypnotist did his initial schtick, he walked among us tapping some of us on the shoulder if he thought we'd not been susceptible. I thought he tapped me and I tried to rise and leave, as instructed. I found myself sort of shambling. Felt like a complete dork. The man stopped me and called me back--made me his first "subject." He asked me to go back in time to the age of five. Nice, fella, really. (Hear my sarcasm?) I had students to face the rest of the day. I did not intend to play along, but I seriously did feel weird and couldn't seem to answer him the way I wanted. When he asked me my name, I told him in a childlike voice I was "Denny Lou"--which was my sister's nickname for me when we were little. Naturally, it stuck for a while with my fellow teachers and students. Argh!
Jim, however, never gave it up completely. Would frequently walk past my classroom door and chant "Deneeeee Louuuuu." Such a brat. He did drop it for a time after he graduated and only returned to Whitmer to help with the winter play. But he revived it after we were married, using it as endearment solely between the two of us. I still hated it, but by then it was something sweet and sentimental. I knew when I started writing this novel, I would have to reveal it again. Jim would never forgive me if I didn't.

Well it's nice to meet you Denise...
Here's another coincidence, my mother would call me Lou or Lulu as a child, which is short for Louise so I called my daughter that when she was born.
(her middle name)
Lol, thanks for explaining how Denny Lou came about !!! Actually, I think it very sweet Jim kept that pet name for you. And that you have shared it in the story.

If you are looking for a completed novel, the first drafts of Fellowship of Psys and Fellowship Lost are in folders in my gallery. Or if you want short stories, choose one of the other folders on the left side of my gallery--including some erotica. Lol. Enjoy! Most of the other folders are WIP. Hurry! Catch up. I've missed you.
