This is really cool, great work.
Have you thought of dying the deep parts so it has more contrast?

Thank you very much!!!

As it is a drinking horn made for "drinking alcoholic beverages " and horn over a long period of time is porous, I would really not wish to introduce even the remotest possibility of poisoning by me, from the pigments of the dyes or paints, even if it "might" happen year in the future, to the people who will drink from my work.

Also I prefer to use the natural wonderful coloration or the horn in and with the design Im carving.

Also as it is a natural material, you can never tell how a paint or dye will absorb if you are trying to achieve a certain effect, its a total shot in the dark, and after having spent 30-70 hours carving a piece, on your only piece of material that was chosen by the customer, I really dont feel like rolling the dice in a craps shoot for a "possiblly cool effect that might or might not come out good and enhancing the already wonderful natural colors within the horn.

On a horn that is not to be used for food or drink its is possible, i have gold leafed a design at the request of the customer, but it was on bone not horn.

I hope this help you understand why I only use natural un-dyed  materials for my works that will be used for the ingestion of either food or drink.

OH ALSO "IF" the customer wishes to paint or dye my work AFTER it is theirs, it becomes not my problem and each person is informed of this when they receive it from me when, I tell them how to care for their new custom made Object.

Oh, I didn't even thought about poisoning... But the dye should not sink through the horn, right? So if you only paint it on the outside it should be fine? I hope?
Well, you certainly got some really good points against dying. Thank you very much for your answer

alcohol or oil based dyes are engineered to penetrate what they are put on  so be very careful with a thin horn and anything that will be used for food.. you might end up saving yourself over time from some nasty side effects
