Description OK... this is a series using an experimental technique in the darkroom. The process goes like this: 1) Coat your face (or whatever other body part you like) with vaseline/petroleum jelly, 2) go into the darkroom with some unexposed photo paper and press/rub your face onto the paper, 3) come out of the darkroom and expose the paper to normal light momentarily, 4) take it back into the darkroom and develop the paper. The portions of the paper that had vaseline on them come out white, and the parts of the paper without it come out black. The vaseline blocks light from directly exposing the paper when taken into normal light.

The result is somewhat random, and often startling and/or creepy.

This is a 3-part series.

****EDIT****
I added to the title, from descriptions given by . He nailed each one with a single word.

Thanks so much! It really is a fun process... especially because you can never be sure just exactly it will turn out. Thanks for looking, and for the comments!

hahahahah, silly. Leave it to you, with your cake-battering-faced ways! LOL

Thanks Kitty! I have to tell ya, getting that stuff out of my goat and hair was the hardest pat of all. Ahh, the sacrifices made in the name of art.

cro-magnon.

you are a flippin genius mate! i could lookysee these for ages! the capture of a 'character' rather than just a plain ol face (not that you have a plain OR old face mind you!) is wonderful for my eyes!

I am humbled! Thank you.

I like this technique for exactly that reason. You can use yourself as a model without it having to be "about" you, as in more traditional self-portraits. And you never really know exactly how it's going to turn out, even better. I like the slight loss of control inherent in it.

I'm glad you like it!
